Book Synopsis Recent Development of Electrospinning for Drug Delivery by : Romána Zelkó
Download or read book Recent Development of Electrospinning for Drug Delivery written by Romána Zelkó and published by MDPI. This book was released on 2020-03-27 with total page 206 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several promising techniques have been developed to overcome the poor solubility and/or membrane permeability properties of new drug candidates, including different fiber formation methods. Electrospinning is one of the most commonly used spinning techniques for fiber formation, induced by the high voltage applied to the drug-loaded solution. With modifying the characteristics of the solution and the spinning parameters, the functionality-related properties of the formulated fibers can be finely tuned. The fiber properties (i.e., high specific surface area, porosity, and the possibility of controlling the crystalline–amorphous phase transitions of the loaded drugs) enable the improved rate and extent of solubility, causing a rapid onset of absorption. However, the enhanced molecular mobility of the amorphous drugs embedded into the fibers is also responsible for their physical–chemical instability. This Special Issue will address new developments in the area of electrospun nanofibers for drug delivery and wound healing applications, covering recent advantages and future directions in electrospun fiber formulations and scalability. Moreover, it serves to highlight and capture the contemporary progress in electrospinning techniques, with particular attention to the industrial feasibility of developing pharmaceutical dosage forms. All aspects of small molecule or biologics-loaded fibrous dosage forms, focusing on the processability, structures and functions, and stability issues, are included.

Book Synopsis Cancer Biology and Therapeutics by : Joseph G. Cory
Download or read book Cancer Biology and Therapeutics written by Joseph G. Cory and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2013-06-29 with total page 266 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In anticipation of the opening of the H. Lee Moffitt Cancer Center and Research lnstitut~ on the campus of the University of South Florida, an international symposium, "The First Annual H. Lee Moffitt Symposium on Cancer Biology and Therapeutics" was held in Tampa, Florida on January 20-22, 1986. In this first symposium we decided to present a broad-based series of topics dealing with the major issues in the field of cancer. These topics ranged from the biochemistry of the cancer cell to the design of antineoplastic agents, through tumor cell heterogeneity, treatment of ltuman neoplasms to immunological aspects of cancer biology and tr~atment. The speakers chosen represented individuals of international acclaim who are very active in the area of cancer research and treatment. The symposium brought together scien tists/physicians from six nations including Austria, Canada, France, Hungary, West Germany, and of course, the United States. The congeniality of the participants promoted the friendly exchange of knowledge which, it is hoped, will greatly hasten the time when successful management of human cancer will become routine. Future symposia in this series will be highly focused and will deal with a single facet of this vast field of cancer research and treatment. Joseph G. Cory, Editor Andor Szentivanyi, Editor University of South Florida, 1986 V ACKNOWLEDGMENTS This volume presents the Proceedings of the H. Lee Moffitt International Syn~osium on Cancer Biology and Therapeutics which was held in Tampa, Florida on January 20, 21, and 22, 1986.
Book Synopsis Herbal Medicinal Products by : Frauke Gaedcke
Download or read book Herbal Medicinal Products written by Frauke Gaedcke and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2003 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Herbal medicinal products are becoming more widely accepted as alternatives to medical prescriptions. Many physicians believe that herbal medicinal products are able to beneficially complement or even replace chemical medicines. Recognizing this, European institutions are pushing the harmonization of assessment criteria for herbal medicinal products. However, this kind of reevaluation of herbal medicinal products is combined with increased expectations of physicians, pharmacists, and patients with regard to quality, safety and efficacy. There are often uncertainties about the interpretation of basic terms related to the manufacture and quality of herbal medicinal products. Herbal Medicinal Products clarifies these uncertainties, increasing transparency in the herbal medicinal products market and supporting an adequate scientific discussion related to herbal medicinal products. It offers a complete survey on current scientific knowledge, as well as on legal basic requirements for the development, standardization, and licensing of herbal medicinal products.
