Download or read book Think Red written by Larry Stoess and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2021-09-27 with total page 134 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Have you ever wondered what the church would look like if Christians began to take the words of Jesus seriously--the words some Bibles print in red? What if Jesus actually meant for us to do the things he said? What if those who "believe in Jesus" really did value the things he valued? Would the church look different? Would your neighborhood stay the same? In Think Red, Larry Stoess takes a close look at the values, the vision, and the mission of Jesus, and then holds up a mirror for us to see if our communities look anything like Jesus. If we dare look in the mirror we may be inspired to leave behind our obsession with consumer-based religion and follow the way of Jesus. Those who do will be set free to imagine creative and whimsical expressions of community.

Book excerpt: Think Red Flags is a book that offers a simple but new proactive approach to achieve a profitable small business.Owning your own business is one of the great opportunities that we enjoy in the United States. To develop a winning business strategy for your current or startup business you should start with the right mindset to achieve your goal. Why?The Small Business Administration (SBA) released a good news, bad news report you should know about. The bad news is 20% of new businesses fail within the first two years and 45% fail within the first five years. These business statistics should not make you afraid to forge ahead, but instead, to do so with the understanding that success is intentional, it doesn't just happen. The good news is 55% of successful new businesses are achieved within the first five-year period. Knowing this, you might ask yourself, "How can I increase the odds to my favor and join the 55% winning group?" Think Red Flags was written to help you get there. Whether you are starting a company or currently operating one, learning to Think Red Flags will help you develop the mindset to ultimately: . Analyze and validate your business plan. . Manage complex projects without costly errors. . Establish a safety net. . Create a low error rate business performance. . In Think Red Flags I wrote about the 3 ways people learn; Reading/Education, Personal Experience, and Other People's Experience. Reading and Other People's Experience are the most effective approach to executing your business idea. Personal Experience is also important, but, if you have to experience everything to gain knowledge, you will likely be very senior before you have the wisdom to succeed.Think Red Flags has only one purpose, to provide you with a way of thinking that will become your greatest business asset. Once you learn the process, you can apply it to both your business and personal life. Happy Red Flagging!

Download or read book Red Skin, White Masks written by Glen Sean Coulthard and published by U of Minnesota Press. This book was released on 2014-08-15 with total page 319 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: WINNER OF: Frantz Fanon Outstanding Book from the Caribbean Philosophical Association Canadian Political Science Association’s C.B. MacPherson Prize Studies in Political Economy Book Prize Over the past forty years, recognition has become the dominant mode of negotiation and decolonization between the nation-state and Indigenous nations in North America. The term “recognition” shapes debates over Indigenous cultural distinctiveness, Indigenous rights to land and self-government, and Indigenous peoples’ right to benefit from the development of their lands and resources. In a work of critically engaged political theory, Glen Sean Coulthard challenges recognition as a method of organizing difference and identity in liberal politics, questioning the assumption that contemporary difference and past histories of destructive colonialism between the state and Indigenous peoples can be reconciled through a process of acknowledgment. Beyond this, Coulthard examines an alternative politics—one that seeks to revalue, reconstruct, and redeploy Indigenous cultural practices based on self-recognition rather than on seeking appreciation from the very agents of colonialism. Coulthard demonstrates how a “place-based” modification of Karl Marx’s theory of “primitive accumulation” throws light on Indigenous–state relations in settler-colonial contexts and how Frantz Fanon’s critique of colonial recognition shows that this relationship reproduces itself over time. This framework strengthens his exploration of the ways that the politics of recognition has come to serve the interests of settler-colonial power. In addressing the core tenets of Indigenous resistance movements, like Red Power and Idle No More, Coulthard offers fresh insights into the politics of active decolonization.

Download or read book One Blood written by John Perkins and published by Moody Publishers. This book was released on 2018-04-03 with total page 208 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dr. Perkins’ final manifesto on race, faith, and reconciliation We are living in historic times. Not since the civil rights movement of the 60s has our country been this vigorously engaged in the reconciliation conversation. There is a great opportunity right now for culture to change, to be a more perfect union. However, it cannot be done without the church, because the faith of the people is more powerful than any law government can enact. The church is the heart and moral compass of a nation. To turn a country away from God, you must sideline the church. To turn a nation to God, the church must turn first. Racism won't end in America until the church is reconciled first. Then—and only then—can it spiritually and morally lead the way. Dr. John M. Perkins is a leading civil rights activist today. He grew up in a Mississippi sharecropping family, was an early pioneer of the civil rights movement, and has dedicated his life to the cause of racial equality. In this, his crowning work, Dr. Perkins speaks honestly to the church about reconciliation, discipleship, and justice... and what it really takes to live out biblical reconciliation. He offers a call to repentance to both the white church and the black church. He explains how band-aid approaches of the past won't do. And while applauding these starter efforts, he holds that true reconciliation won't happen until we get more intentional and relational. True friendships must happen, and on every level. This will take the whole church, not just the pastors and staff. The racial reconciliation of our churches and nation won't be done with big campaigns or through mass media. It will come one loving, sacrificial relationship at a time. The gospel and all that it encompasses has always traveled best relationally. We have much to learn from each other and each have unique poverties that can only be filled by one another. The way forward is to become "wounded healers" who bandage each other up as we discover what the family of God really looks like. Real relationships, sacrificial love between actual people, is the way forward. Nothing less will do.

Download or read book Red Dynamite written by Carl R. Weinberg and published by Cornell University Press. This book was released on 2021-10-15 with total page 444 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In Red Dynamite, Carl R. Weinberg argues that creationism's tenacious hold on American public life depended on culture-war politics inextricably embedded in religion. Many Christian conservatives were convinced that evolutionary thought promoted immoral and even bestial social, sexual, and political behavior. The "fruits" of subscribing to Darwinism were, in their minds, a dangerous rearrangement of God-given standards and the unsettling of traditional hierarchies of power. Despite claiming to focus exclusively on science and religion, creationists were practicing politics. Their anticommunist campaign, often infused with conspiracy theory, gained power from the fact that the Marxist founders, the early Bolshevik leaders, and their American allies were staunch evolutionists. Using the Scopes "Monkey" Trial as a starting point, Red Dynamite traces the politically explosive union of Darwinism and communism over the next century. Across those years, social evolution was the primary target of creationists, and their "ideas have consequences" strategy instilled fear that shaped the contours of America's culture wars. By taking the anticommunist arguments of creationists seriously, Weinberg reveals a neglected dimension of antievolutionism and illuminates a source of the creationist movement's continuing strength.
