Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My prayer is that men and women will be inspired to evaluate their purpose and how it can be a compliment to each other. God's creation of man and woman transcends gender. This book is not to debate this because God has already provided us the master plan for that. It is not my assignment to rehash and regurgitate the current debate about gender issues. However, God's download to me may challenge views on this social and moral issue. When a man is aligned with their Creator's plan, every facet of that man will be in order. After reading this devotional, my prayer is that men will claim their inheritance as a king. As a result they will be empowered to make a positive impact in their families, communities, and churches. Likewise, I hope that the queens in their lives will have a deeper appreciation and burden to support them in their newly or reclaimed role. Together, the kings and queens will reflect God's true love for mankind, ultimately demonstrating virtuous men and women!

Download or read book Dig written by A.S. King and published by Penguin. This book was released on 2020-06-30 with total page 401 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the Michael L. Printz Medal ★“King’s narrative concerns are racism, patriarchy, colonialism, white privilege, and the ingrained systems that perpetuate them. . . . [Dig] will speak profoundly to a generation of young people who are waking up to the societal sins of the past and working toward a more equitable future.”—Horn Book, starred review “I’ve never understood white people who can’t admit they’re white. I mean, white isn’t just a color. And maybe that’s the problem for them. White is a passport. It’s a ticket.” Five estranged cousins are lost in a maze of their family’s tangled secrets. Their grandparents, former potato farmers Gottfried and Marla Hemmings, managed to trade digging spuds for developing subdivisions and now they sit atop a million-dollar bank account—wealth they’ve refused to pass on to their adult children or their five teenage grandchildren. “Because we want them to thrive,” Marla always says. But for the Hemmings cousins, “thriving” feels a lot like slowly dying of a poison they started taking the moment they were born. As the rot beneath the surface of the Hemmings’ white suburban respectability destroys the family from within, the cousins find their ways back to one another, just in time to uncover the terrible cost of maintaining the family name. With her inimitable surrealism, award winner A.S. King exposes how a toxic culture of polite white supremacy tears a family apart and how one determined generation can dig its way out.

Book Synopsis How to Think Like an Anthropologist by : Matthew Engelke
Download or read book How to Think Like an Anthropologist written by Matthew Engelke and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2019-06-18 with total page 334 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: "What is anthropology? What can it tell us about the world? Why, in short, does it matter? For well over a century, cultural anthropologists have circled the globe, from Papua New Guinea to suburban England and from China to California, uncovering surprising facts and insights about how humans organize their lives and articulate their values. In the process, anthropology has done more than any other discipline to reveal what culture means--and why it matters. By weaving together examples and theories from around the world, Matthew Engelke provides a lively, accessible, and at times irreverent introduction to anthropology, covering a wide range of classic and contemporary approaches, subjects, and practitioners. Presenting a set of memorable cases, he encourages readers to think deeply about some of the key concepts with which anthropology tries to make sense of the world--from culture and nature to authority and blood. Along the way, he shows why anthropology matters: not only because it helps us understand other cultures and points of view but also because, in the process, it reveals something about ourselves and our own cultures, too." --Cover.

Book Synopsis The Truth about Stories by : Thomas King
Download or read book The Truth about Stories written by Thomas King and published by House of Anansi. This book was released on 2003 with total page 184 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Winner of the 2003 Trillium Book Award "Stories are wondrous things," award-winning author and scholar Thomas King declares in his 2003 CBC Massey Lectures. "And they are dangerous." Beginning with a traditional Native oral story, King weaves his way through literature and history, religion and politics, popular culture and social protest, gracefully elucidating North America's relationship with its Native peoples. Native culture has deep ties to storytelling, and yet no other North American culture has been the subject of more erroneous stories. The Indian of fact, as King says, bears little resemblance to the literary Indian, the dying Indian, the construct so powerfully and often destructively projected by White North America. With keen perception and wit, King illustrates that stories are the key to, and only hope for, human understanding. He compels us to listen well.
