"Oh!" she shrieked. "Yes! Yes! A thousand times yes!" As Bob stood up and reached into his pocket for the ring, Mary jumped into his arms nearly knocking him over. Applause filled the restaurant. Suddenly, three masked men burst through the front door of the restaurant, and three gunshots rang out. Dust fell from where the bullets had penetrated the ceiling. "I can't give him my new engagement ring," Mary whispered tearfully. Mary's life changed in an instant. Her happy, church-oriented life was destroyed. "I don't want to go on living," Mary said when she awakened the next morning. "The joy has gone out of my life. How could God let this happen? God has let me down, and I'm through with Him." Mary's mother had been keeping a shocking secret for twenty-eight years. Was now the time to tell Mary about it? Mary's happiness and even her life might depend on it. Seemingly unrelated events and people are drawn together as God's plan is slowly and painstakingly worked out.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Henlee Barnette's life has spanned most of the twentieth century. His life in the rural South eventually led to his becoming a Christian. He graduated from Wake Forest College in 1940, and then attended seminary, taking the Ph.D. in 1948. For the next 50 years he taught Christian ethics, but not just in the classroom. In this remarkable memoir, he stresses Christianity as a pilgrimage, a way of life undergirded by faith in God. Such faith is active in love and calls for justice in personal and social relations. One's journey in the world needs a spiritual compass: the Christian's personal responsibility to do faith active in love, that is, agape love. Such love includes justice. Love without justice is subjective and sentimental. Love that Jesus taught provides concreteness and structure. Agape love makes justice just. Christian faith that is purely personal is suspect. In his own pilgrimage he became aware of the demonic forces that dehumanize us. Among these was the denial of basic human rights to minority groups. Love and justice motivated him to join the Civil Rights Movement as a means of achieving more just interpersonal relations. His relationships with blacks and whites during the Civil Rights Movement fill the pages of this wonderful narrative. But Barnette also fought against unjust wars, ecological abuse, poverty, violence, and a multitude of other issues which confront and challenge both Christian and church.

Book excerpt: A church is where an insecure sixteen-year-old girl should feel welcome, happy, and most importantly, safe. Tragically for some, the church can become a place of great harm. Sandy Phillips Kirkham details her account of how a charismatic youth minister preyed upon her, a betrayal which left her broken, with a shattered faith, and the ultimate shame of being blamed and forced from the church she loved. From their very first meeting, the new youth minister slowly and methodically turned the sacred relationship of a trusted spiritual leader to one of abuse: sexual, emotional, and physical. When his actions were discovered, he was simply moved to another church, leaving Sandy to pay for his deeds. She was not his first victim, nor would she be his last. Despite a successful and happy life as a wife, mother, and friend, Sandy successfully concealed her abuse for twenty-seven years until a trigger forced her to face the truth. Sandy's story will take you on her journey of healing which began in 2004, first by seeking justice and closure from both the pastor and the church. Her strength and courage will inspire you. Let Me Prey Upon You details Sandy's journey from innocent sixteen-year-old victim to survivor and advocate.

At 60 years, Jim is too young to die and believes he has a whole life ahead of him. When the reality of his impending demise sinks in, Jim methodically prepares for his final days, including trying to heal old wounds. With a dash of life’s regrets and unfinished business, Jim’s hours are spent pondering the legacy he will leave for his friends and children. In preparing for the end, Jim selects five individuals to represent his life at the funeral service. This group includes Jim’s boss, his personal physician, a neighbor, the pastor of his church, and a woman whom Jim was involved with in a long-term affair. None of the individuals know each other or why they were chosen. Summoned to the office of Jim’s attorney, the representatives disclose emotions and information few individuals want to hear. Reluctantly, they agree to share every facet of their friend. Jim’s story not only transforms the five representatives but alters the lives of the funeral guests. They realize the value of one’s life is less about the length of time, but rather how we touched other people through our actions and words.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Never again should a child die because of being left alone in a hot car. The inspiration for the invention and writing of Remember Baby came because both parents forgot. The setting is Las Vegas, Nevada on June 29, 2001, the hottest recorded day so far that year. After reading the tragic account in the local paper, the author was besieged with sorrow, anger, tears, and overwhelming personal grief. While discussing the senseless tragedy with her husband and saying repeatedly, "This has got to stop. Somebody has to do something," a voice from within spoke softly but firmly, saying, "You do it." Thinking it was her spouse, she turned toward him, only to discover he was not speaking. Again and again the prompting came, until the author realized it was a divine call. How could a pastor without formal education in engineering or automotive accomplish such a feat? In answer to her prayers for help, many came to her aid, including the director of automotive for Southern Nevada Community College, who agreed to build her prototype for a safety alarm system that alerts drivers to remove kids from their vehicle before departing. The book raises the consciousness of hyperthermia deaths of children left in hot cars and promotes preventive safety measures. Pastor Sandy Blake Toles is pastor and founder of Love Center Unlimited, a Christian outreach ministry in Las Vegas, whose mission is to empower, educate, coach, mentor, and serve the underserved population. "I was inspired to invent this device and motivated to write this book after reading about the preventable premature death of a six-month-old baby boy forgotten by his parents in a hot car." Book excerpt: Now in its second edition, this ground-breaking book shares with you stories of life after death from the ghosts' own point of view. Some stories are tragic, some comical, some stunning and all of them fascinating. Meet Annabelle, a seven-year-old ghost in pink pajamas who was desperately looking for her family, or Lydia, a ghost who was being haunted by the living. There are more unforgettable stories in this poignant, unnerving and hopeful view of life after death. Author and intuitive, Tina Erwin is not your ordinary psychic. She is a retired US Navy Commander AND a ghost helper, NOT a ghost hunter. She not only talks to the dead, she assists them in crossing over to the Heaven World. Listen as each ghost tells you: What it’s like to be dead. What it’s like to be driving down the road one minute and the next have no idea where you are. A soul's frustration as he talks to someone who cannot seem to hear him no matter what he does. Or how much some ghosts enjoy controlling the living from the grave. Ghost Stories from the Ghosts’ Point of View is a haunting look at not only what it’s like to be a ghost, but also what it’s like to find yourself dead and have no idea what to do, where to go or how to change your surroundings. This ground-breaking book invites you to finally hear their stories, to understand the ghosts’ point of view and learn what it feels like for them when they are embraced by the light of the Heaven World. Listen as each ghost tells you: What it’s like to be dead. What it’s like to be driving down the road one minute and then the next have no idea where you are. What it’s like to be talking to someone who cannot seem to hear you no matter what you do. What it’s like to still control the living from the grave. What it’s like to be haunted in death by the living.
