This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 773 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Progress in International Research on Thermodynamic and Transport Properties covers the proceedings of the 1962 Second Symposium by the same title, held at Purdue University and the Thermophysical Properties Research Center. This symposium brings together theoretical and experimental research works on the thermodynamic and transport properties of gases, liquids, and solids. This text is organized into nine parts encompassing 68 chapters that cover topics from thixotropy to molecular orbital calculations. The first three parts review papers on theoretical, experimental, and computational studies of the various aspects of thermodynamic properties. These parts discuss the principles of phase equilibria, throttling, volume heat capacity, steam, volumetric behavior, enthalpy, and density. The subsequent part highlights the theoretical evaluations of transport properties, such as viscosity, diffusion, and conductivity, as well as the transport processes. These topics are followed by surveys of the theories in intermolecular forces and their applications. Other parts consider the measurement of thermal conductivity, viscosity, and radiation. The final parts examine the properties of ionized gases and non-Newtonian fluids. This book will prove useful to mechanical and chemical engineers.

Book Synopsis Effect of Dissociation on Thermodynamic Properties of Pure Diatomic Gases by : Harold William Woolley
Download or read book Effect of Dissociation on Thermodynamic Properties of Pure Diatomic Gases written by Harold William Woolley and published by . This book was released on 1955 with total page 24 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A graphical method for obtaining charts for the thermodynamic properties enthalpy and entropy for the equilibrium mixture of atoms and diatomic molecules for pure gaseous elements is described. The procedure is equivalent in principle to numerical calculation based on the same fundamental data, but gives directly the location of points of intersection of curves for constant values of the compressibility factor PV/RT. In combination, the resulting graphs for enthalpy and entropy are equivalent to Mollier's diagrams for the gaseous fluid in the dissociation region. Results are given for hydrogen H2, oxygen O2, and nitrogen N2.

Book Synopsis Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics For Engineering Applications by : Signe Kjelstrup
Download or read book Non-equilibrium Thermodynamics For Engineering Applications written by Signe Kjelstrup and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 2024-07-23 with total page 357 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book presents the theory of non-equilibrium thermodynamics in a pedagogical and practical way that targets engineering applications. In it, tools to take advantage of the second as well as the first law of thermodynamics are provided. The book starts by explaining how the entropy production is the cornerstone of non-equilibrium thermodynamics — the basis to describe coupled transport phenomena, which are highly relevant for several renewable energy technologies. The book also uses entropy production as the foundation for a systematic methodology to analyze and improve energy efficiency, and shows how entropy production can be used to test the consistency of transport models. The link between transport theory and energy efficiency is also shown, and the relationship to exergy analysis is demonstrated. The theory is applied using examples from practical cases like evaporation, heat exchange, reactor optimization, distillation and more.Non-Equilibrium Thermodynamics for Engineering Applications may be used as a textbook for undergraduate and graduate university curricula containing thermodynamics or energy conversion issues at large, chemical and mechanical engineering, applied chemistry and applied physics.
