The first volume focuses on carbon (graphite/graphene) and refractory metals (W, Re, Os, Ta, Mo, Nb, Ir). The second and third volumes are dedicated solely to refractory (ceramic) compounds (oxides, nitrides, carbides, borides, silicides) and to the complex materials – refractory alloys, carbon and ceramic composites, respectively. It will be of interest to researchers, engineers, postgraduate, graduate and undergraduate students in various disciplines alike. The reader is provided with the full qualitative and quantitative assessment for the materials, which could be applied in various engineering devices and environmental conditions at ultra-high temperatures, on the basis of the latest updates in the field of physics, chemistry, materials science, nanotechnology and engineering.

Book Synopsis Thermal Properties of Solids at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures by : Guglielmo Ventura
Download or read book Thermal Properties of Solids at Room and Cryogenic Temperatures written by Guglielmo Ventura and published by Springer. This book was released on 2014-06-23 with total page 220 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The minimum temperature in the natural universe is 2.7 K. Laboratory refrigerators can reach temperatures in the microkelvin range. Modern industrial refrigerators cool foods at 200 K, whereas space mission payloads must be capable of working at temperatures as low as 20 K. Superconducting magnets used for NMR work at 4.2 K. Hence the properties of materials must be accurately known also at cryogenic temperatures. This book provides a guide for engineers, physicists, chemists, technicians who wish to approach the field of low-temperature material properties. The focus is on the thermal properties and a large spectrum of experimental cases is reported. The book presents updated tables of low-temperature data on materials and a thorough bibliography supplements any further research. Key Features include: ° Detailed technical description of experiments ° Description of the newest cryogenic apparatus ° Offers data on cryogenic properties of the latest new materials ° Current reference review
Book Synopsis High Electrical Resistant Materials by : Muktikanta Panigrahi
Download or read book High Electrical Resistant Materials written by Muktikanta Panigrahi and published by John Wiley & Sons. This book was released on 2024-02-23 with total page 257 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: HIGH ELECTRICAL RESISTANT MATERIALS The book describes how the utilization of high-carbon slag/pond ash/fly ash for making value-added ceramics is useful for the electrical sectors. Since waste materials are currently endangering our environment, ways of utilizing them have become a global challenge. Currently, R&D work is being carried out to utilize these materials for producing value-added products. This book details the investigations to utilize fly ash (FA) and pond ash (PA) - both waste materials from thermal power plants - with high-carbon ferrochrome (HCFC) slag (by-product of the ferrochrome industry), for producing a novel material for ceramics. Kaolin/K-feldspar is mixed with PA/HCFC slag to produce ceramics with the formation of mullite. The FA/PA/HCFC slag-based ceramics can replace porcelain-based ceramics, and some permanent ceramic structures can be constructed with such wastes. Properties and structures made with ceramics are found to be comparable with those made with porcelain-based ceramics. Performances of these materials above ambient temperature have been evaluated and results indicate the possible replacement of porcelain with these newly invented ceramics. Audience The book will be used by electrical and civil engineers in the electrical, construction, and ceramic industries as well as the industrial waste sector. Researchers in materials science, structural, civil and electrical engineering, environmental science, and ceramic engineering, will also have high interest.

Readers with some familiarity with this field will be able to follow the presentations with ease. Engineering students and those taking physics courses will find this book to be a useful source of examples of applications of the theory to commercially available materials as well as for uncomplicated explanations of physical properties. In many cases alternate explanations have been provided for clarity. An effort has been made to keep mathematics as an unsophisticated as possible withoutwatering down or distorting the concepts. In practically all cases only a master of elementary calculus is required to follow the derivations. All of thealgebra is shown and no steps in the derivations are considered to be obvious to the reader. Explanations are provided in cases where more advanced mathematics is employed The problems have been designed to promote understanding rather than mathematical or computational skill.
