Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Here is a collection of essays and commentaries on social, political and contemporary issues written with a tinge of euphuistic, witty, and imaginative aplomb. The topics range from politics, government, war and conflict to poverty, religion, racism and marriage. The book raises some pertinent and interesting questions and attempts to answer them from an insightful, contemplative, and commonsensical standpoint. Who created God? Do God and Jesus come from the same place? Is America's demise near? Why has Osama Bin Laden vowed to destroy America? Why may he succeed? What motivates the terrorist? Is marriage a good thing? What makes a marriage work? Why has the rest of the world allowed the Israeli-Palestinian conflict to fester? Why does peace remain elusive to the world? Who gains from war and conflict? What is the solution to the problem of poverty? Why do we have poor people? Why are people racist? Why are people stupid? Why do people hate each other? Have governments augured well for People? Is Democracy truly the answer? Why is there so much bitterness and rancor in the world? And much more! The book is loaded with ideas and notions intended to give vent to the contemplative mind and lift the closed and narrow minded out from the morass of age-old institutional thinking.

Book excerpt: Koboko When Dr. Ted Milo Moro closed his successful medical practice in the USA and returned to his African homeland of WaZoBia, he had only one thing in mind; to run for political office and help bring about much needed reforms to WaZoBia. However, he soon realized that the problems that plague his homeland were way bigger than any one man and required much more than honorable intentions. Frustrated and nearly out of money after two years of trying to gain a foothold in the political arena of WaZoBia, he was faced with the option of either embracing corruption or packing his bags and returning to the US. He chose to embrace corruption and settled in to enjoy the spoils of high political office. But when a bizarre and near-fatal encounter with a swarm of an unknown species of wasps transforms him into a super human with formidable abilities, he becomes an unlikely hero to take on the scourge of crime and corruption in WaZoBia.

Book excerpt: How entrepreneurs find the next big thing-and make it huge. The era of easy money and easy jobs is officially over. Today, we're all entrepreneurs, and the tides of change threaten to capsize anyone who plays it safe. Taking risks is the name of the game-but how can you tell a smart bet from a stupid gamble? Andy Kessler has made a career out of seeing the future of business, as an analyst, investment banker, venture capitalist, and hedge fund manager. He evaluated the business potential of the likes of Steve Jobs and Michael Dell before they were Steve Jobs and Michael Dell. His eye for what's next is unparalleled. Now Kessler explains how the world's greatest entrepreneurs don't just start successful companies-they overturn entire industries. He offers twelve surprising and controversial rules for these radical entrepreneurs, such as: ? Eat people: Get rid of worthless jobs to create more wealth for everybody ? Create artificial scarcity for virtual goods ? Trust markets to make better decisions than managers Whether you're at a big corporation or running a small business, you're now an entrepreneur. Will you see change coming and grab on to opportunity or miss the boat?

A long-lost book reappears, mysteriously connecting an old man searching for his son and a girl seeking a cure for her widowed mother's loneliness. Leo Gursky taps his radiator each evening to let his upstairs neighbor know he’s still alive. But it wasn’t always like this: in the Polish village of his youth, he fell in love and wrote a book…Sixty years later and half a world away, fourteen-year-old Alma, who was named after a character in that book, undertakes an adventure to find her namesake and save her family. With virtuosic skill and soaring imaginative power, Nicole Krauss gradually draws these stories together toward a climax of "extraordinary depth and beauty" (Newsday).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Other End of the Needle demonstrates that tattooing is more complex than simply the tattoos that people wear. Using qualitative data and an accessible writing style, sociologist Dave Lane explains the complexity of tattoo work as a type of social activity. His central argument is that tattooing is a social world, where people must be socialized, manage a system of stratification, create spaces conducive for labor, develop sets of beliefs and values, struggle to retain control over their tools, and contend with changes that in turn affect their labor. Earlier research has examined tattoos and their meanings. Yet, Lane notes, prior research has focused almost exclusively on the tattoos—the outcome of an intricate social process—and have ignored the significance of tattoo workers themselves. "Tattooists," as Lane dubs them, make decisions, but they work within a social world that constrains and shapes the outcome of their labor—the tattoo. The goal of this book is to help readers understand the world of tattoo work as an intricate and nuanced form of work. Lane ultimately asks new questions about the social processes occurring prior to the tattoo’s existence.
