Book excerpt: Excerpt from A Treatise on Human Physiology: Designed for the Use of Students and Practitioners of Medicine This volume is Offered to the medical profession of the United States, as a text-book for students, and also as a means of commu nicating, in a condensed form, such new facts and ideas in physio logy, as have marked the progress of the science within a recent period. Many of these topics are of great practical importance to the medical man, as influencing, in various ways, his views on pathology and therapeutics; and they are all of interest for the physician who desires to keep pace with the annual advance of his profession, as indicating the present position and extent of one of the most progressive of the departments of medicine. It has been the Object Of the author, more particularly, to pre sent, at the same time with the conclusions which physiologists have been led to adopt on any particular subject, the experimental basis upon which those conclusions are founded; and he has on deavored, so far as possible, to establish or corroborate them by original investigation, or by a repetition Of the labors of others. This is more especially the case in that part of the book (section I.) devoted to the function Of Nutrition; and as a general thing, throughout the work, any statement of experimental facts, not expressly referred to the authority of some other writer, is given by the author as the result of direct personal observation. This book is an outcome of an idea I got from my students, when I saw them taking print out of my lecture presentations and get them spirally bounded as book to study during whole semesters, especially examination days. The present compilation of important facts & concepts of human physiological system well supported with self-drawn suitable figures are very helpful in revising entire syllabus particularly during examination days when students are running short of time and plenty is there to study. The present book covers almost all human physiological systems starting from Body Fluids to Muscle Physiology, Cardiovascular System, Endocrine System, Nervous System, Respiratory System, Excretory System, Digestive System and Reproductive System. Every chapter is very well supported with proper illustrations, tables and ray diagrams. Altogether about 50 illustrations are included in the book to make the mechanisms/concept easiest to understand by the students. This book shall be helpful to the students of Medical (MBBS/MD/MS), Paramedical, Basic Sciences viz. Zoology & Applied Sciences viz. Biomedical Sciences, Biotechnology, Biochemistry, Microbiology, Human Physiology, Life Sciences, Biosciences, Endocrinology, Pharmacy, Home Science, etc. I thank to readers in advance for their all love given to the book. I wish you all success in future endeavors!

Book excerpt: Anatomy and Physiology is effectively a broad introductory course that requires the student to devote an enormous amount of effort to understand it on even a basic level. While this necessitates time, it can be streamlined in the early stages of one’s learning so that the student may understand why he or she is required to invest such a large amount of time into learning - Clinical Applications of Human Anatomy & Physiology is the textbook that accomplishes this. Clinical Applications of Human Anatomy & Physiology is a book that combines both areas of knowledge for a full comprehension of the human body. It is targeted to healthcare students in need of a better understanding of human physiology to combine with their clinical training. It is targeted to healthcare students in need of a better understanding of human physiology to combine with their clinical training. The main objective of this book is to elucidate the organization and functioning of the major organs and systems with an emphasis on the applications of this knowledge on the daily clinical routine. One of the main differences of this textbook that sets it apart from others is that it not only provides the information: it also contextualizes it. Every chapter starts introducing a case study that is related to the content that is going to be approached. At the end of the chapter, there is the conclusion of each case study, which presents the final diagnosis showing every step of the process. This context is essential so that, when the student faces this situation in the real-life clinic he or she will be able to deal with it efficiently. Clinical Applications of Human Anatomy & Physiology also has sections of questions to practice the knowledge that was obtained during the chapter, and the answers to each question are explained so no doubts remain after studying. All of this means that Clinical Applications of Human Anatomy & Physiology is a fully rounded book that combines information and practical applications, as well as questions that help the student to understand and retain all the information in a very efficient and effective way. This book has all the information you need to get started on your journey to learning about the human body.
