Book Synopsis Gaseous Ion Mobility, Diffusion, and Reaction by : Larry A. Viehland
Download or read book Gaseous Ion Mobility, Diffusion, and Reaction written by Larry A. Viehland and published by Springer. This book was released on 2018-12-19 with total page 301 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is about the drift, diffusion, and reaction of ions moving through gases under the influence of an external electric field, the gas temperature, and the number density. While this field was established late in the 19th century, experimental and theoretical studies of ion and electron swarms continue to be important in such varied fields as atomic and molecular physics, aeronomy and atmospheric chemistry, gaseous electronics, plasma processing, and laser physics. This book follows in the rigorous tradition of well-known older books on the subject, while at the same time providing a much-needed overview of modern developments with a focus on theory. Graduate students and researchers new to this field will find this book an indispensable guide, particularly those involved with ion mobility spectrometry and the use of ion transport coefficients to test and improve ab initio ion-neutral interaction potentials. Established researchers and academics will find in this book a modern companion to the classic references.

Book Synopsis Swarms of Ions and Electrons in Gases by : W. Lindinger

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Our understanding of elementary processes in plasmas has been increasing dramatically over the last few years. The development of various swarm techniques, such as the temperature variable selected ion flow tube or the selected ion flow drift tube, has provided the prerequisite for detailed investigations into ion molecule reactions both in binary and three body collisions, and the mechanisms of many reactions are now understood quite satisfactorily. This information could not have been obtained without a detailed knowledge of the transport phenomena involved. Some of these, such as the internal-energy distribution of drifting ions, have only very recently been tackled both theoretically and experimentally; a consistent model is now being developed. As the interactions between the various branches of swarm research have become more and more intense, the most obvious thing to do was putting together a review on the present state of this subject, which is the aim of this book.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over the last decade, the use of ion mobility separation in combination with mass spectrometry analysis has developed significantly. This technique adds a unique extra dimension enabling the in-depth analysis of a wide range of complex samples in the areas of the chemical and biological sciences. Providing a comprehensive guide to the technique, each chapter is written by an internationally recognised expert and with numerous different commercial platforms to choose from, this book will help the end users understand the practicalities of using different instruments for different ion mobility purposes. The first section provides a detailed account of the fundamentals behind the technique and the current range of available instrumentation. The second section focusses on the wide range of applications that have benefitted from ion mobility – mass spectrometry and includes topics taken from current research in the pharmaceutical, metabolomics, glycomics, and structural molecular biology fields. The book is primarily aimed at researchers, appealing to practising chemists and biochemists, as well as those in the pharmaceutical and medical fields.
Book Synopsis Mobilities of Mass-Identified Atomic Ions in the Noble Gases by : R. Johnsen
Download or read book Mobilities of Mass-Identified Atomic Ions in the Noble Gases written by R. Johnsen and published by . This book was released on 1973 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A drift tube/mass spectrometer apparatus has been used to determine the mobilities of mass-identified atomic ions in the noble gases as a function of E/p (drift field/gas pressure) at T = 295 K. The measured values of the reduced mobilities of He(+) in He, Ne(+) in Ne and Ar(+) in Ar are in agreement with earlier investigations and quantal calculations, but the observed decrease of mobility with ion energy is somewhat slower than that predicted by theory. The measured mobility of each of the noble gas ions in He is found to be 6-12% lower than that of the corresponding alkali ion (as determined by Tyndall's group). (Modified author abstract).
