Download or read book Basic Methods Of Soliton Theory written by Ivan V Cherednik and published by World Scientific. This book was released on 1996-08-22 with total page 264 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the 25 years of its existence Soliton Theory has drastically expanded our understanding of “integrability” and contributed a lot to the reunification of Mathematics and Physics in the range from deep algebraic geometry and modern representation theory to quantum field theory and optical transmission lines. The book is a systematic introduction to the Soliton Theory with an emphasis on its background and algebraic aspects. It is the first one devoted to the general matrix soliton equations, which are of great importance for the foundations and the applications.Differential algebra (local conservation laws, Bäcklund-Darboux transforms), algebraic geometry (theta and Baker functions), and the inverse scattering method (Riemann-Hilbert problem) with well-grounded preliminaries are applied to various equations including principal chiral fields, Heisenberg magnets, Sin-Gordon, and Nonlinear Schrödinger equation.

Book excerpt: A 'soliton' is a localized nonlinear wave of permanent form which may interact strongly with other solitons so that when they separate after the interaction they regain their original forms. This textbook is an account of the theory of solitons and of the diverse applications of the theory to nonlinear systems arising in the physical sciences. The essence of the book is an introduction to the method of inverse scattering. Solitary waves, cnoidal waves, conservation laws, the initial-value problem for the Korteweg-de Vries equation, the Lax method, the sine-Gordon equation and Backlund transformations are treated. The book will be useful for research workers who wish to learn about solitons as well as graduate students in mathematics, physics and engineering.

Book Synopsis Important Developments in Soliton Theory by : A.S. Fokas
Download or read book Important Developments in Soliton Theory written by A.S. Fokas and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 563 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the last ten to fifteen years there have been many important developments in the theory of integrable equations. This period is marked in particular by the strong impact of soliton theory in many diverse areas of mathematics and physics; for example, algebraic geometry (the solution of the Schottky problem), group theory (the discovery of quantum groups), topology (the connection of Jones polynomials with integrable models), and quantum gravity (the connection of the KdV with matrix models). This is the first book to present a comprehensive overview of these developments. Numbered among the authors are many of the most prominent researchers in the field.
Book Synopsis Introduction to Gauge Field Theories by : M. Chaichian
Download or read book Introduction to Gauge Field Theories written by M. Chaichian and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 337 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In recent years, gauge fields have attracted much attention in elementary par ticle physics. The reason is that great progress has been achieved in solving a number of important problems of field theory and elementary particle physics by means of the quantum theory of gauge fields. This refers, in particular, to constructing unified gauge models and theory of strong interactions between the elementary particles. This book expounds the fundamentals of the quantum theory of gauge fields and its application for constructing unified gauge models and the theory of strong interactions. In writing the book, the authors' aim was three-fold: firstly, to outline the basic ideas underlying the unified gauge models and the theory of strong inter actions; secondly, to discuss the major unified gauge models, the theory of strong interactions and their experimental implications; and, thirdly, to acquaint the reader with a rather special mathematical approach (path-in tegral method) which has proved to be well suited for constructing the quantum theory of gauge fields. Gauge fields are a vigorously developing area. In this book, we have select ed for presentation the more or less traditional and commonly accepted mate rial. There also exist a number of different approaches which are presently being developed. The most important of them are touched upon in the Conclusion.

Book Synopsis Solitons and the Inverse Scattering Transform by : Mark J. Ablowitz
Download or read book Solitons and the Inverse Scattering Transform written by Mark J. Ablowitz and published by SIAM. This book was released on 1981-01-01 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A study, by two of the major contributors to the theory, of the inverse scattering transform and its application to problems of nonlinear dispersive waves that arise in fluid dynamics, plasma physics, nonlinear optics, particle physics, crystal lattice theory, nonlinear circuit theory and other areas. A soliton is a localized pulse-like nonlinear wave that possesses remarkable stability properties. Typically, problems that admit soliton solutions are in the form of evolution equations that describe how some variable or set of variables evolve in time from a given state. The equations may take a variety of forms, for example, PDEs, differential difference equations, partial difference equations, and integrodifferential equations, as well as coupled ODEs of finite order. What is surprising is that, although these problems are nonlinear, the general solution that evolves from almost arbitrary initial data may be obtained without approximation. For such exactly solvable problems, the inverse scattering transform provides the general solution of their initial value problems. It is equally surprising that some of these exactly solvable problems arise naturally as models of physical phenomena. Simply put, the inverse scattering transform is a nonlinear analog of the Fourier transform used for linear problems. Its value lies in the fact that it allows certain nonlinear problems to be treated by what are essentially linear methods. Chapters 1 and 2 of the book describe in detail the theory of the inverse scattering transform. Chapter 3 discusses alternate methods for these exactly solvable problems and the interconnections among them. Physical applications are described in Chapter 4, where, for example, similarities between deep water waves and nonlinear optics become evident. Because of the fundamental role of linear theory, there is an extensive appendix that addresses the linear problems and their solutions.
