Book excerpt: July 8 -13, 1985, an international group of scientists met in Uppsala for a symposium on the subject 'Theory and models in Vegetation science' . A volume of over 70 extended abstracts had already been published in time for the symposium (Leemans et at., 1985). That volume included contributions from nearly all of those who gave talks or presented posters at the symposium. The present volume represents the fully-refereed proceedings of the symposium and features articles by a majority of speakers, plus a handful by poster authors, and two that were sent independently to Vegetatio and seemed timely and relevant to the symposi um's theme. As organizers, we tried to bring together for the symposium people whose interests covered several key aspects of modern vegetation science: vegetation dynamics, on shorter or longer time scales; the analysis of community data, and of vegetation-environment relationships in both time and space; and the functional basis of vegetation in terms of the individual plants and plant populations that it comprises. We encouraged contributors to focus on theory and models - not necessarily mathematical models, but also conceptual models that might contribute to the development of theory and mathematical models.

This book was released on 2004-05-11 with total page 246 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book constitutes the refereed proceedings of the 11th International Workshop on Abstract State Machines, ASM 2004, held in Lutherstadt Wittenberg, Germany, in May 2004. The 12 revised full research papers presented together with 4 invited papers were carefully reviewed and selected for inclusion in the book. The papers reflect state-of-the-art research and development of the abstract state machine method for the design and analysis of complex software and hardware systems. Besides theoretical results and methodological progress, applications in various fields are studied as well.
Book Synopsis Plant Disease Epidemiology: Facing Challenges of the 21st Century by : S. Savary

This book was released on 2007-12-13 with total page 137 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As the global climate changes, plant disease epidemiology faces important questions: Will climate change render plant diseases more harmful to man-made ecosystems, or less? Can sustainable systems be developed in time to spare and enhance shrinking resources? How will changes in host plant diversity affect genetic disease resistance? This book provides an overview of current research in plant disease epidemiology from researchers at the cutting edge of this important discipline.
