Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several types of differential equations, such as functional differential equation, age-structured models, transport equations, reaction-diffusion equations, and partial differential equations with delay, can be formulated as abstract Cauchy problems with non-dense domain. This monograph provides a self-contained and comprehensive presentation of the fundamental theory of non-densely defined semilinear Cauchy problems and their applications. Starting from the classical Hille-Yosida theorem, semigroup method, and spectral theory, this monograph introduces the abstract Cauchy problems with non-dense domain, integrated semigroups, the existence of integrated solutions, positivity of solutions, Lipschitz perturbation, differentiability of solutions with respect to the state variable, and time differentiability of solutions. Combining the functional analysis method and bifurcation approach in dynamical systems, then the nonlinear dynamics such as the stability of equilibria, center manifold theory, Hopf bifurcation, and normal form theory are established for abstract Cauchy problems with non-dense domain. Finally applications to functional differential equations, age-structured models, and parabolic equations are presented. This monograph will be very valuable for graduate students and researchers in the fields of abstract Cauchy problems, infinite dimensional dynamical systems, and their applications in biological, chemical, medical, and physical problems.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the last two decades the theory of abstract Volterra equations has under gone rapid development. To a large extent this was due to the applications of this theory to problems in mathematical physics, such as viscoelasticity, heat conduc tion in materials with memory, electrodynamics with memory, and to the need of tools to tackle the problems arising in these fields. Many interesting phenomena not found with differential equations but observed in specific examples of Volterra type stimulated research and improved our understanding and knowledge. Al though this process is still going on, in particular concerning nonlinear problems, the linear theory has reached a state of maturity. In recent years several good books on Volterra equations have appeared. How ever, none of them accounts for linear problems in infinite dimensions, and there fore this part of the theory has been available only through the - meanwhile enor mous - original literature, so far. The present monograph intends to close this gap. Its aim is a coherent exposition of the state of the art in the linear theory. It brings together and unifies most of the relevant results available at present, and should ease the way through the original literature for anyone intending to work on abstract Volterra equations and its applications. And it exhibits many prob lems in the linear theory which have not been solved or even not been considered, so far.

Book excerpt: Aldo Belleni-Morante started to write this book in February 2008 giving two provisional titles: Semigroups and Evaluation Equations in Locally Convex Spaces: An Introduction or Applied Semigroups in Locally Convex Spaces and, he seemed on hurry for finishing it. He decided to share his scientific viewpoint with the Scottish colleagues Prof. Adam C. McBride (AMB) and Dr Wilson Lamb (WL) from the Strathclyde University. He fully desired this collaboration as a consequence of some previous scientific works undertaken since 2006 at the Strathclyde University along his appointment as Permanent Visiting Professor. He also considered the very early conception of this book since 2005 when he spent his latest sabbatical year in Glasgow and further in 2007 when Adam McBride came to Florence to work on this. But not much work was done at that time. To this end, Aldo started happily on his own research work to write the book and he completed his first part in 2008. Unfortunately, the first health problems arisen and this book stayed unfinished.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph establishes a theory of classification and translation closedness of time scales, a topic that was first studied by S. Hilger in 1988 to unify continuous and discrete analysis. The authors develop a theory of translation function on time scales that contains (piecewise) almost periodic functions, (piecewise) almost automorphic functions and their related generalization functions (e.g., pseudo almost periodic functions, weighted pseudo almost automorphic functions, and more). Against the background of dynamic equations, these function theories on time scales are applied to study the dynamical behavior of solutions for various types of dynamic equations on hybrid domains, including evolution equations, discontinuous equations and impulsive integro-differential equations. The theory presented allows many useful applications, such as in the Nicholson`s blowfiles model; the Lasota-Wazewska model; the Keynesian-Cross model; in those realistic dynamical models with a more complex hibrid domain, considered under different types of translation closedness of time scales; and in dynamic equations on mathematical models which cover neural networks. This book provides readers with the theoretical background necessary for accurate mathematical modeling in physics, chemical technology, population dynamics, biotechnology and economics, neural networks, and social sciences.

This book was released on 2022-09-22 with total page 443 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This monograph is devoted to developing a theory of combined measure and shift invariance of time scales with the related applications to shift functions and dynamic equations. The study of shift closeness of time scales is significant to investigate the shift functions such as the periodic functions, the almost periodic functions, the almost automorphic functions, and their generalizations with many relevant applications in dynamic equations on arbitrary time scales. First proposed by S. Hilger, the time scale theory—a unified view of continuous and discrete analysis—has been widely used to study various classes of dynamic equations and models in real-world applications. Measure theory based on time scales, in its turn, is of great power in analyzing functions on time scales or hybrid domains. As a new and exciting type of mathematics—and more comprehensive and versatile than the traditional theories of differential and difference equations—, the time scale theory can precisely depict the continuous-discrete hybrid processes and is an optimal way forward for accurate mathematical modeling in applied sciences such as physics, chemical technology, population dynamics, biotechnology, and economics and social sciences. Graduate students and researchers specializing in general dynamic equations on time scales can benefit from this work, fostering interest and further research in the field. It can also serve as reference material for undergraduates interested in dynamic equations on time scales. Prerequisites include familiarity with functional analysis, measure theory, and ordinary differential equations.

Book excerpt: This book presents comprehensive treatment of a rapidly developing area with many potential applications: the theory of monotone dynamical systems and the theory of competitive and cooperative differential equations. The primary aim is to provide potential users of the theory with techniques, results, and ideas useful in applications, while at the same time providing rigorous proofs. Among the topics discussed in the book are continuous-time monotone dynamical systems, and quasimonotone and nonquasimonotone delay differential equations. The book closes with a discussion of applications to quasimonotone systems of reaction-diffusion type. Throughout the book, applications of the theory to many mathematical models arising in biology are discussed. Requiring a background in dynamical systems at the level of a first graduate course, this book is useful to graduate students and researchers working in the theory of dynamical systems and its applications.
