Die Forderung an die Europäische Integration sind damals wie heute ein heiß diskutiertes Thema. Antworten auf die Frage, welche Aufgaben die Europäische Union im Zuge der Integration erfüllen muss, suchen nicht nur Politiker wie Sabine Leutheusser-Schnarrenberger oder Winston Churchill. Die "Blütezeit" der daraus entstandenen Schulen erstreckt sich von Mitte der 40er Jahre bis in die 70er Jahre hinein. Doch da es im Zusammenhang mit der Europäischen Integration um die großen Themen des 20. Jahrhunderts wie Krieg und Frieden, Souveränität oder Staatenbildung geht, lohnt es sich, die Theorien der Europäischen Integration näher zu untersuchen und sie auf ihre Zweckmäßigkeit hin zu überprüfen.
