Download or read book A Teacher’s Guide to Science and Religion in the Classroom written by Berry Billingsley and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2018-01-29 with total page 223 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Teacher’s Guide to Science and Religion in the Classroom provides practical guidance on how to help children access positive ways of thinking about the relationship between science and religion. Written for teachers of children from diverse-faith and non-faith backgrounds, it explores key concepts, identifies gaps and common misconceptions in children’s knowledge, and offers advice on how to help them form a deeper understanding of both science and religion. Drawing on the latest research as well as the designs of successful workshops for teachers and for children, there are activities in each chapter that have been shown to help children understand why science and religion do not necessarily conflict. The book highlights children’s interest in the so-called "Big Questions" that bridge science and religion and responds to the research finding that most children are missing ideas that are key to an explanation of why science and religion can be harmonious. The book explores key concepts and ideas including: Nature of science Power and limits of science Evolution, genes and human improvement Miracles, natural disasters and mystery Profiles of scientists, including Galileo and Newton A Teacher’s Guide to Science and Religion is an essential companion for preservice and practising teachers, providing session plans and pedagogic strategies, together with a cohesive framework, that will support teachers in fostering children’s curiosity and enthusiasm for learning.

Book Synopsis A Framework for K-12 Science Education by : National Research Council
Download or read book A Framework for K-12 Science Education written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2012-02-28 with total page 400 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Science, engineering, and technology permeate nearly every facet of modern life and hold the key to solving many of humanity's most pressing current and future challenges. The United States' position in the global economy is declining, in part because U.S. workers lack fundamental knowledge in these fields. To address the critical issues of U.S. competitiveness and to better prepare the workforce, A Framework for K-12 Science Education proposes a new approach to K-12 science education that will capture students' interest and provide them with the necessary foundational knowledge in the field. A Framework for K-12 Science Education outlines a broad set of expectations for students in science and engineering in grades K-12. These expectations will inform the development of new standards for K-12 science education and, subsequently, revisions to curriculum, instruction, assessment, and professional development for educators. This book identifies three dimensions that convey the core ideas and practices around which science and engineering education in these grades should be built. These three dimensions are: crosscutting concepts that unify the study of science through their common application across science and engineering; scientific and engineering practices; and disciplinary core ideas in the physical sciences, life sciences, and earth and space sciences and for engineering, technology, and the applications of science. The overarching goal is for all high school graduates to have sufficient knowledge of science and engineering to engage in public discussions on science-related issues, be careful consumers of scientific and technical information, and enter the careers of their choice. A Framework for K-12 Science Education is the first step in a process that can inform state-level decisions and achieve a research-grounded basis for improving science instruction and learning across the country. The book will guide standards developers, teachers, curriculum designers, assessment developers, state and district science administrators, and educators who teach science in informal environments.

Book Synopsis Maths is all Around You by : Marianne Knaus
Download or read book Maths is all Around You written by Marianne Knaus and published by Bloomsbury Publishing. This book was released on 2015-04-23 with total page 98 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We encounter mathematics on a regular basis in one form or another. For some people, maths is 'scary' and not something they feel confident about. Even though many educators and parents attempt to provide good mathematics experiences, there is still a high level of anxiety about the teaching and learning of mathematics. This book presents a broad range of concepts and aims to widen the narrow view that maths for young children is just about numbers and shapes. The content includes pattern (early algebra), counting, number, early operations, measurement, shape and spatial awareness (geometry), matching, sorting, data analysis and the introduction of chance (statistics and probability). This book is intended for educators and parents who would like to explore and investigate maths concepts to enrich children's experiences and extend their current thinking and learning.
Book Synopsis Re-Making Communication at Work by : J. Sostrin
Download or read book Re-Making Communication at Work written by J. Sostrin and published by Springer. This book was released on 2013-11-07 with total page 269 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Almost 400 years ago philosophers John Locke and David Hume implicitly defined communication as a tool for the transmission of pure ideas, stating that the ideas themselves are what matter, not the way in which they are expressed and exchanged. Now known as the transmission model, this form of communication is still the foundation for academic courses in communication theory and practice, and is embedded in most business literature and education that address subjects related to workplace communication, organization behavior and culture, leadership, and conflict resolution. But what if this accepted model of communication was incomplete? Re-Making Communication at Work argues that the transmission model of communication needs to be replaced by a new approach to communication. Sostrin challenges the status quo by exposing the most common myths that inaccurately define successful communication at work. These misperceptions are replaced by a set of core principles that deliver a clear mandate for re-making communication at work. Sostrin not only provides the theoretical foundation for this new approach, but he uses a straightforward model and exercises that demonstrate how managers, students, and consultants can powerfully improve relationships, decision-making, and collaboration with a few lines and circles.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: All that has happened in the past, all of Earth's history, man has created in his dream. and the end of time will come when man wakes up and realizes he has been dreaming. Suddenly, a young family wrests themselves from life in a North American city to seek a rustic existence close to nature and a circle of new friends in mountain valleys of British Columbia. But that is only one of the levels to this story. For David and Kelly (Siofra) are a mystic and a psychic on an out-of-the-ordinary quest inspired by higher energy presences, Moita and Amar. How will their experiment in communication between worlds illuminate the process of planetary rebirth that will accelerate years later . . . in the "awakening" of 2012 and beyond? "This time period is at crossroads. Paths before you lead into the future—some not pleasant, some extremely promising. We are here to help you choose the road that leads not to destruction but that leads to life, and to this change of man and his awareness, to the reuniting of [our] worlds." Among facets of this visionary yet down-to-earth adventure: helping persons in crisis to unlock their hearts, find their new balance, deepening our sense of community as a core group risks old selves in order to truly meet, confronting dark energies across lifetimes, undoing man's obsession with power, seeing that the planet's upheavals now mirror our own—as a vast evolution in consciousness comes full circle, aided by higher-dimensional beings, and the Earth Mother voicing her plea for man to awaken as a willing partner. "We are entering a New Age of humanity. Instead of man creating only on his own, set apart from the rest of the universe, this time he is involved in a co-creation—and we are the co-creators. Those who are here have arrived to help found a new world."
Download or read book Child Psychology written by Jaquann Lynch and published by Scientific e-Resources. This book was released on 2019-02-28 with total page 320 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Child psychology is one of the many branches of psychology and one of the most frequently studied specialty areas. This particular branch focuses on the mind and behavior of children from prenatal development through adolescence. Child psychology deals not only with how children grow physically, but with their mental, emotional and social development as well. How are children's lives changing and what role do child psychologists have in supporting children? Child psychology is a broad area, covering how people change as they grow up from birth through to adolescence and trying to explain how these important changes occur - are 3-year-olds, 7-year-olds and teenagers different just because of their experiences of the world, or because of biological changes within the individual? Because child psychology is so vast and tries to answer so many questions, researchers and practitioners often separate development into specific areas. Broadly, these tend to map onto children's physical, cognitive and social/emotional development. Child psychologists attempt to make sense of every aspect of child development, including how children learn, think, interact and respond emotionally to those around them, make friends, understand emotions and their own developing personalities, temperaments and skills. Children typically reach developmental milestones. These milestones reflect abilities, such as walking and talking, that are achieved by most children at similar ages. Among other things, we are interested in trying to explain how children reach these milestones and how individual, social and cultural factors may influence how we develop. Child psychology is one of the many branches of psychology and one of the most frequently studied specialty areas. This studied specialty areas. This particular branch focuses on the mind and behavior of children from prenatal development through adolescence. Child psychology will undoubtedly prove useful to the students as well as teachers of the subject. For the general readers, it is an ideal means of acquainting with child's general problems and their effective solutions.
