Book excerpt: She needs a teacher. He needs her. Avery Montgomery is in the running to take over her father's multi-million-dollar company once he retires. Despite his faith in her, Avery feels a necessity to prove herself as a business-savvy woman in a male-dominated world. Besides summer internships at her father's company and graduating Somerset University with a honors and a Master's degree in Business, she has zero field experience. When the opportunity arises to invest in a Supernatural Registry application, Avery jumps at the chance. Her only competitor is Alpha shifter and self-made billionaire, Lucas Cruz. The man is arrogant, condescending, and drop-dead gorgeous. Suddenly, Avery is being doubted by fellow businessman and her fiance, Rick Ashton, her mother, and her father's company. They all say the same thing: Experience is everything. The problem is, Avery is a virgin in both the boardroom and the bedroom. Even Rick assumes she has some sexual experience under her belt despite her insistence on waiting to have sex until she's ready, and even tells her that he wouldn't want to waste his time teaching a rookie how to succeed in both business and pleasure. But Lucas is different. Lucas offers to educate her in all areas of her life that need experience. Now, Avery must decide if she takes a chance on Lucas and his educational offer, despite the fact that it's still technically cheating. The only rule: feelings can't get in the way. No big deal, right?
Book Synopsis The Virgin And The Werewolf by : Charles Perrault
Download or read book The Virgin And The Werewolf written by Charles Perrault and published by SCB Distributors. This book was released on 2013-03-29 with total page 43 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The folktale of Red Riding Hood has its origins in tales from various European countries, of which several still exist, some significantly different from the better-known Perrault and Grimms versions. It was told by French peasants in the 10th century, and also in Italy in the 14th century, engendering a number of versions, including "La Finta Nonna", often with elements of cannibalism, scatology, and nudity. Later Germanic variants were most likely inspired by the 16th century "werewolf” trials of Peter Stumpp and others. This special ebook collection of texts relating to the Red Riding Hood legend starts with "La Finta Nonna", and then features the two most well-known latterday versions: "Le Petit Chaperon Rouge" ("Little Red Riding Hood”) by Charles Perrault (1697), and "Rotkäppchen" ("Little Red Cap”) by Jacob and Wilhelm Grimm (1812). Elements of this story are similar to those in the Grimms' tale "Der Wolf Und Die Sieben Geißlein" ("The Wolf And The Seven Young Kids”), which is also included for comparison. This collection also includes "Little Red Hood", the Slavonic version retold and analysed by A.H. Wratislaw (1890); plus a special bonus text: "The Damnable Life And Death of Peter Stumpp", by George Bores, a graphic true account of lycanthropy, cannibalism and black magic written in 1590. With a cover illustration by Arthur Rackham.

Book Synopsis The Wolf and the Woodsman by : Ava Reid
Download or read book The Wolf and the Woodsman written by Ava Reid and published by HarperCollins. This book was released on 2021-06-08 with total page 448 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In the vein of Naomi Novik’s New York Times bestseller Spinning Silver and Katherine Arden’s national bestseller The Bear and the Nightingale, this unforgettable debut— inspired by Hungarian history and Jewish mythology—follows a young pagan woman with hidden powers and a one-eyed captain of the Woodsmen as they form an unlikely alliance to thwart a tyrant. In her forest-veiled pagan village, Évike is the only woman without power, making her an outcast clearly abandoned by the gods. The villagers blame her corrupted bloodline—her father was a Yehuli man, one of the much-loathed servants of the fanatical king. When soldiers arrive from the Holy Order of Woodsmen to claim a pagan girl for the king’s blood sacrifice, Évike is betrayed by her fellow villagers and surrendered. But when monsters attack the Woodsmen and their captive en route, slaughtering everyone but Évike and the cold, one-eyed captain, they have no choice but to rely on each other. Except he’s no ordinary Woodsman—he’s the disgraced prince, Gáspár Bárány, whose father needs pagan magic to consolidate his power. Gáspár fears that his cruelly zealous brother plans to seize the throne and instigate a violent reign that would damn the pagans and the Yehuli alike. As the son of a reviled foreign queen, Gáspár understands what it’s like to be an outcast, and he and Évike make a tenuous pact to stop his brother. As their mission takes them from the bitter northern tundra to the smog-choked capital, their mutual loathing slowly turns to affection, bound by a shared history of alienation and oppression. However, trust can easily turn to betrayal, and as Évike reconnects with her estranged father and discovers her own hidden magic, she and Gáspár need to decide whose side they’re on, and what they’re willing to give up for a nation that never cared for them at all.

Book Synopsis Memory, Imagination, Justice by : David Gurnham
Download or read book Memory, Imagination, Justice written by David Gurnham and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2016-04-22 with total page 226 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Through the creative use of literary analysis, Memory, Imagination, Justice provides a critical and highly original discussion of contemporary topics in criminal law and bioethics. Author David Gurnham uses popular and classical texts, by authors including Shakespeare, Dickens, Euripides, Kafka, the Brothers Grimm, Huxley and Margaret Atwood to shed fresh light on such controversial legal and ethical issues as passionate homicide, life sentences, child pornography and genetic enhancement. Gurnham’s overarching theme is the role of memory and imagination in shaping legal and ethical attitudes. Along this line, this book examines the ways in which past wrongs are remembered and may be forcefully responded to, both by the criminal justice system itself and also by individuals responding to what they regard as gross insults, threats or personal violations. The volume further discusses the role of imagination as a creative force behind legal reform, in terms of the definition of criminal behaviour and the possible future development of the law. These ideas provide a useful and highly original perspective on contemporary issues of crime and society as they resonate both in legal and literary discussion.
