Williams, Sr., Co-Author Gail McGregor has been married to a pastor long enough to know all about the foibles and fantasies surrounding the unofficial title of "First Lady." The expectations of being a pastor's wife were too high; the rewards, too low. During her marriage to a pastor, she has experienced tears and tragedies, unfulfilled days and lonely nights, doctors' visits, tranquilizers and even a nervous breakdown. All the problems involved with being married to a "man of God" have driven her to wit's end. Having already sought out every avenue she knows to find understanding, genuine acceptance and love, she now devises her own form of coping--revenge. Having secured a few comrades, she embarks on a vengeful journey that leads to the most unlikely places... She soon discovers that although revenge is "a dish best served cold," true vengeance should be left in much larger Hands than her own. Thanks to contributing writer Blessing Williams, daughter of the authors Monolesia Williams, married to Pastor Byron Williams, has been a pastor's wife for fifteen years. Book Synopsis Women and Revenge in Shakespeare by : Marguerite A. Tassi
Download or read book Women and Revenge in Shakespeare written by Marguerite A. Tassi and published by Susquehanna University Press. This book was released on 2011 with total page 345 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Can there be a virtue in vengeance? Can revenge do ethical work? Can revenge be the obligation of women? This wide-ranging literary study looks at Shakespeare's women and finds bold answers to questions such as these. A surprising number of Shakespeare's female characters respond to moral outrages by expressing a strong desire for vengeance. This book's analysis of these characters and their circumstances offers incisive critical perceptions of feminine anger, ethics, and agency and challenges our assumptions about the role of gender in revenge. In this provocative book, Marguerite A. Tassi counters longstanding critical opinions on revenge: that it is the sole province of men in Western literature and culture, that it is a barbaric, morally depraved, irrational instinct, and that it is antithetical to justice. Countless examples have been mined from Shakespeare's dramas to reveal women's profound concerns with revenge and justice, honor and shame, crime and punishment. In placing the critical focus on avenging women, this book significantly redresses a gender imbalance in scholarly treatments of revenge, particularly in early modern literature.

Book Synopsis Revenge of the Domestic by : Donna Harsch
Download or read book Revenge of the Domestic written by Donna Harsch and published by Princeton University Press. This book was released on 2018-06-26 with total page 350 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Revenge of the Domestic examines gender relations in East Germany from 1945 to the 1970s, focusing especially on the relationship between ordinary women, the Communist Party, and the state created by the Communists, the German Democratic Republic (GDR). The book weaves together personal stories from interviews, statistical material, and evidence from archival research in Berlin, Potsdam, Leipzig, Merseburg, and Chemnitz to reconstruct the complex interplay between state policy toward women and the family on the one hand, and women's reactions to policy on the other. Donna Harsch demonstrates that women resisted state decisions as citizens, wageworkers, mothers, wives, and consumers, and that in every guise they maneuvered to overcome official neglect of the family. As state dependence on female employment increased, the book shows, the Communists began to respond to the insistence of women that the state pay attention to the family. In fits and starts, the party state begrudgingly retooled policy in a more consumerist and family-oriented direction. This "domestication" was partial, ambivalent, and barely acknowledged from above. It also had ambiguous, arguably regressive, effects on the private gender arrangements and attitudes of East Germans. Nonetheless, the economic and social consequences of this domestication were cumulatively powerful and, the book argues, gradually undermined the foundations of the GDR.
Book Synopsis The Cassowary's Revenge by : Donald Tuzin
Download or read book The Cassowary's Revenge written by Donald Tuzin and published by University of Chicago Press. This book was released on 1997-09-02 with total page 284 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Donald Tuzin first studied the New Guinea village of Ilahita in 1972. When he returned many years later, he arrived in the aftermath of a startling event: the village’s men voluntarily destroyed their secret cult that had allowed them to dominate women for generations. The cult’s collapse indicated nothing less than the death of masculinity, and Tuzin examines the labyrinth of motives behind this improbable, self-devastating act. The villagers' mythic tradition provided a basis for this revenge of Woman upon the dominion of Man, and, remarkably, Tuzin himself became a principal figure in its narratives. The return of the magic-bearing "youngest brother" from America had been prophesied, and the villagers believed that Tuzin’s return "from the dead" signified a further need to destroy masculine traditions. The Cassowary's Revenge is an intimate account of how Ilahita’s men and women think, emote, dream, and explain themselves. Tuzin also explores how the death of masculinity in a remote society raises disturbing implications for gender relations in our own society. In this light Tuzin's book is about men and women in search of how to value one another, and in today's world there is no theme more universal or timely.
