C. 17. The thanks of the Society are due to E. B. Nicholson, Esq., Bodley's Librarian, for allowing it to be copied and printed. It was formerly in the library of Peter le Neve, Norroy King of Arms, and was, I think, No. 612 (twelfth Day) in the sale catalogue. The library was sold in 1731 by John Wilcox, bookseller in Little Britain, when No. 612 realized eight shillings and Sixpence. A note records that Joseph Smith paid 2 103. For the volume, when perhaps the name A. Brooke, that of some former owner, was struck through. Miss E. G. Parker, who made the copy of the manuscript, tells me that the handwriting of the additions to the Brooke marriage, on folio 88 (p. Seems to correspond with the signature. Other alterations by the same hand are found on folios 56b (p. 101 (p. 136 (p. Etc. A note by the present Librarian records, Bought by the Bodleian 5 2 1892 for 2 2 0 through the Provost of Queen's. This is all that I have been able to find out concerning the history of the volume. It may be noted that a number of the pedigrees are written by the same hand as the blazons of the arms. There are a great many additions by different hands at various dates running throughout the whole volume, a large number having been made by Le Neve. Some of the additions seem to be the result of the ms. Having been checked with the original, and certain names and words filled in which the tran scriber failed to read. These additions are in every instance printed in italics, and the notes in italics and enclosed within square brackets are either by Miss Parker or myself. Le Neve has written on folio 1 the title, Copie of the Visitation of Buckinghamshire in y9 year 1634. A list of the pedigrees as they are arranged in the ms. Occupies folios 2 and 2b. This list has therefore been reproduced with the addition of the corresponding pages in the printed Volume, as a key to the cross references placed after certain names in the pedigrees. Some few pedigrees have been written into the volume since this list was made; the names of these I have added in italics. Then; follows in the ms. An elaborate alphabetical index, indicating the Visitation pedigrees by a crescent, and marking all the marriages, heiresses, etc.; it occupies folios 3 to It has not been printed, as the General Index will supply its place.
