I consequently went as soon as I turned into dressed, and determined that his landlady had arrested him for his rent, at which he was in a violent ardour: I perceived that he had already modified my guinea, and had a bottle of Madeira and a tumbler earlier than him. I positioned the cork into the bottle, desired he would be calm, and started out to talk to him of the means by means of which he might be extricated. He then told me he had a novel ready for the clicking, which he produced to me. I appeared into it and saw its advantage; instructed the landlady I have to soon go back; and, having long past to a bookseller, offered it for sixty kilos.
