Book excerpt: A young man whose mother had been killed while his father was driving drunk continued to live with his father. The abuse he suffered while the drink controlled his dad was unbearable. He decided to leave home and live under a bridge if he had to! Looking for a warm place to sleep, he tried to get into a church. He remembered that some friends had said that churches were heated all the time. Before he got in the window, he swore a demon tried to get him! Finally, he walked to his grandmother’s house. As he played the piano, he and a group of friends became famous as the Bad Boys. But life was miserable. Finding his grandmother dead in her chair as she waited up for his “gig” to end devastated him. Changing his life wasn’t as easy as he thought it might be. But the process, which he determined to travel, was wrought with many problems. After many years of serving God, he realized, as he looked at the bodies of his buddies who were part of the Bad Boys, his choice was the best.

Book excerpt: In many respects they were an after-thought and a convenient reserve in the minds of those who ran the country and its armed forces at the outbreak of hostilities in both world conflicts. Because of the existing politics and prejudices they could not be used in a combatant capacity and were relegated to the more menial tasks and unimposing functions. Despite all this, they answered the call to duty and rallied to the colours when they were most needed during those dark days of 1914-1918 and 1939-1945. In the end they accounted for a sizeable percentage of South Africa's military effort. They were part of all the major campaigns and served in virtually all the theatres of operations, where the South African forces were at war. And many of them did eventually take up arms against the enemy of the time. This story tells of their devotion to duty and their achievements as volunteer servicemen. There were tragedies that befell them and there were many deeds of bravery that they were called upon to perform. This book pays homage to those devoted men, once viewed by history as an Unknown Force, whose contribution was great.

Book Synopsis Toward the Unknown by : Tri Thong Dang
Download or read book Toward the Unknown written by Tri Thong Dang and published by Tuttle Publishing. This book was released on 2011-11-22 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Toward the Unknown is a series of parables about the martial–arts quest, and a meditation on the art of discipleship. A careful reading of the text will lead teachers and practitioners of all martial arts to examine their motives, to go beyond superficial prizes and awards, to rise above a focus on fighting technique, and ultimately to transcend the known. The stories included here chronicle the exploits of Master Lam, the greatest fighter and teacher of his time. Lam, following the example of his late master, Tai–Ahn, seeks to create an environment in which the student might be both challenged physically and enlightened spiritually. He teaches by example, following classical methodology, which focuses on moral, ethical, and spiritual growth in addition to technical competence. As the exciting and spiritually uplifting sequel to Beyond the Known, this book, through philosophy and fiction, leads the reader toward the unknown.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Adventures Into the Unknown was an American comic-book magazines series best known as the medium's first ongoing horror-comics title.published by the American Comics Group, initially under the imprint B&I Publishing, it ran 174 issues (cover-dated Fall 1948 - Aug. 1967). The first two issues, which included art by Fred Guardineer and others, featured horror stories of ghosts, werewolves, haunted houses, killer puppets and other supernatural beings and locales. The premiere included a seven-page, abridged adaptation of Horace Walpole's seminal gothic novel The Castle of Otranto, by an unknown writer and artist Al Ulmer. Unlike many American horror comics of the Golden Age, it weathered the public criticism of the early 1950s and survived the aftermath of the Senate Subcommittee on Juvenile Delinquency hearings of April and June 1954 when the comics industry attempted self-regulation with a highly restrictive Comics Code. This book contains the very scarce and hard to find Issues #3 and #4.
