Book Synopsis Iterative Solutions of Maxwell's Equations by : J. S. Asvestas

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The problem of scattering of electromagnetic waves by a closed, bounded, smooth, perfectly conducting surface immersed in vacuum is considered and a method for determining the scattered electric and magnetic field vectors (solutions of the homogeneous Maxwell equations satisfying the well known boundary conditions on the surface and the Silver-Muller radiation condition at infinity) everywhere exterior to the surface is presented. Specifically, two integral equations are derived, one for each scattered field vector. These equations are coupled. The kernels of the equations are dyadic functions of position and can be derived from the solutions of standard interior and exterior potential problems. Once these dyadic kernels are determined for a particular surface geometry the integral equations can be solved by iteration for the wave number k being sufficiently small. Alternatively, the scattered fields in the integral equations may be expanded in a power series of the wave number k and recursion formulas be found for the unknown coefficients in the expansions by equating equal power of k. As a check, the method is applied to the problem of scattering of a plane electromagnetic wave by a perfectly conducting sphere. The first two terms in the low frequency expansions of the electric and magnetic scattered fields are found and are shown to be in complete agreement with known results. (Author).

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A deficiency is pointed out in Stevenson's method of reducing the solution of electromagnetic scattering problems to a succession of standard potential problems whose solutions determine terms in the low frequency expansion of the scattered field. An alternate approach is presented, for perfectly conducting scatterers, which not only removes the difficulty but also is simpler and more explicit than Stevenson's method. The details of the analogous, though simpler, scalar scattering problems are also presented. (Author).
Book Synopsis Electromagnetic Wave Theory by : J. C. Brown
Download or read book Electromagnetic Wave Theory written by J. C. Brown and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2013-10-22 with total page 566 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Electromagnetic Wave Theory, Part 2 contains the proceedings of a Symposium on Electromagnetic Wave Theory held at Delft, The Netherlands in September 1965. The symposium provided a forum for discussing electromagnetic wave theory and tackled a wide range of topics, from propagation in nonlinear media to electromagnetic wave propagation and amplification in solid-state plasmas. Electromagnetic waves in nonlinear transmission lines with active parameters are also considered, along with the phase dependence of maser active material Q-factor on pump intensity and frequency. Comprised of four sections, this volume begins with an analysis of two modes of propagation that are coupled through parametric modulation in nonlinear media. The discussion then turns to symmetry restrictions in nonlinear, non-absorbing, non-dispersive media; nonlinear interaction between two beams of plane electromagnetic waves in an anisotropic medium; radiation in periodically non-stationary media; and electromagnetic wave propagation in time-varying media. Subsequent chapters explore the diffraction of electromagnetic waves by plasma structures; resonant electromagnetic scattering from gyrotropic plasmas; scattering and transmission of electromagnetic waves at a statistically rough boundary between two dielectric media; and developments in wavefront reconstruction. This book will be useful for students, practitioners, and researchers in physics.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This report presents a new approach to the solution of the problem of scalar scattering by three-dimensional finite bodies. Specifically, a method is found, of general applicability, whereby the solution of the static c potential problem for a Dirichlet boundary condition on a particular surface is transformed, by successive operations, into the solution of the scalar Helmholtz equation satisfying the same boundary conditions.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The book represents an exhaustive study of the scattering properties of acoustically soft and hard bodies and of perfect conductors, presented for 15 geometrically-simple shapes. Such shapes are important in their own right and as a basis for synthesizing the radiation and scattering properties of more complex configurations. Each shape is treated in a separate chapter whose contents are presented in stylized format for easy reference. Emphasis is placed on results in the form of formulae and diagrams. Although no detailed derivation are included, an outline of methods in scattering theory is given in the Introduction. (Author).
