Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Andrew and his little sister, Lily, live with their parents in Texas. Since their grandparents reside nearby, they are always happy to visit them and learn new things about the world-especially from wise Pappa Rayson. The siblings usually get along, but one day, they start arguing. Pappa Rayson decides it's time to teach his grandchildren the lesson of the "ugly bug." He explains that the ugly bug of selfishness is invisible, but when he bites, he makes brothers and sisters fight. But that nasty bug also does something else: he makes them look ugly. Horrified by the thought of being ugly, Andrew and Lily ask their grandfather what they can do to get rid of the ugly bug. The only way to do this, Pappa says, is to make a beautiful butterfly. That means Andrew and Lily will have to find forgiveness in their hearts toward each other. It's not easy to do, but the children are determined to rid themselves of the ugly bug once and for all! Through helpful imagery, The Ugly Bug and the Beautiful Butterfly artfully teaches children how the unseen spiritual world co-exists with the physical world.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: We are familiar with the longing for something more in our livessomething to remind us there is more than being driven to pursue goals and accomplish aspirations that seem to be increasingly meaningless. I wrote Established by God, Expressed in Nature: 7 Spiritual Laws in Natural Settings because I had an epiphany. I observed the presence of God and the impact of his power on the simplest forms of life that we see every day and take for granted. Combining these insights with my own personal transformation through my experience in the air force and with my own spiritual awakening, I conclude that suggestions for a better way of being and of reflecting Gods presence in us need not be expressed in ways that are ponderous and prescriptive. The result is my own journey to greater awarenessone that I have sought to share by writing this book.
Book Synopsis Are You There Alone? by : Suzanne O'Malley
Download or read book Are You There Alone? written by Suzanne O'Malley and published by Simon and Schuster. This book was released on 2004-02-02 with total page 305 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Suzanne O'Malley takes a close look at the Andrea Yates murder trial and discovers medical misjudgment, professional negligence, misapplied law, and a revelation that led to the overturning of Yates's conviction. It took a jury less than four hours to find Houston housewife Andrea Yates guilty of the drowning deaths of three of her five children—and a mere half hour to sentence the troubled woman with a stunning history of severe mental problems to life in prison. But beyond the media coverage of her heinous crimes, there is a story that only investigative reporter Suzanne O'Malley has fully illuminated. This updated edition of Are You There Alone? features a new chapter on the appeal of the Yates case, as well as personal updates on both Andrea and Rusty Yates. Having drawn upon hundreds of interviews—with expert witnesses, close friends, family advisers, and Andrea and Rusty themselves—O'Malley has produced a riveting true-crime account that shatters our notions about criminal law, mental illness, death-penalty politics, and religious fanaticism in America today.

Download or read book Rosy's Little Book of Prose written by Rosy Mckenzie and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2019-05-08 with total page 48 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: My book contains my poetry, art and photography. I studied Art at a later stage in life, doing an Access to Art & Design course which covered a lot of subjects including ceramics, photography, 3D and 2D design, Fine Art, print work and graphic design. I then went on to study Ceramic Design at Central St Martins University in London and followed by a Fine Art Degree, in Essex. Sadly, my glaucoma took a turn for the worse and I lost a lot of eyesight. I had little option but to join a visually impaired art class in Hadleigh, Essex. During this time, I exhibited my work in local Art Trails. One day, on Chatt Inn Facebook group, I wrote a tiny ditty which went down well, and I was invited to write a poem on a regular basis. I kept all my poems on WordPress together with some of my earlier art and photography. When I moved home, a friend kindly presented me with a book he had created on Lulu, containing some of my art and poems. This inspired me to produce this book of further poetry, art and photography.

Book Synopsis Nobel Universal Graphical Language by : Milan Randic
Download or read book Nobel Universal Graphical Language written by Milan Randic and published by Xlibris Corporation. This book was released on 2010-05-24 with total page 546 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Nobel is a pictographic language based on some 120 basic signs and many arrows of different shape that are mutually combined. It is named after Alfred Nobel (18331896), Swedish chemist and industrialist, inventor of dynamite, who left most of his fortune to a foundation that annually gives awards to individuals whose work is characterized as greatest benefit to mankind, known as Nobel Prizes. Besides the awards for sciences and literature significantly, Alfred Nobel included, among others, a prize for peace (that besides individuals, also organizations may obtain). Although it would be utopian to believe that human conflicts could be avoided if communication tools would improve, the emergence of universal languages certainly cannot make the situation worse! Universal languages are a communication tool, which makes it possible for people of no common language to communicate. They are graphic, but they should be distinguished from picture writings, which only passively offer information on some event or give messages. Universal languages have more similarity with the sign languages that are used for people who lost hearing or the sign language of American Plains Indians, who spoke different languages and could communicate by sign language that they developed. However, written language has some advantages over hand sign languages in that one can communicate at a great distance, particularly today in the age of fax and computer communications, and that one can leave messages for posterity. This is not the place to argue for or against the promise of written sign languages. Graphic (written) sign languages exist today, and the best known are Chinese characters used in China and Japan. The problem with Chinese characters is that there are too many characters and it is difficult to learn so many. It takes years for children in China and Japan to learn so many different characters, and the task would be even harder for grown people to learn if they have not done this when young. Nobel is designed to remove this difficulty and is based on the following requirements: 1. SMALL NUMBER OF BASIC SIGNS 2. SIGNS SHOULD BE EASY TO RECOGNIZE 3. SIGNS SHOULD BE EASY TO REPRODUCE 4. COMBINATIONS LIMITED TO THREE SIGNS 5. COMPLEMENTARY We have already mentioned that Nobel uses about 120 basic signs, which can be viewed as a small number, particularly in view of over 100 signs of Nobel that are so obvious that they can be easily absorbed. The other requirements are also very important. There are many signs that can be easily recognized, but in order to be acceptable for Nobel, they also need to be easily reproduced, because that will facilitate communication. Also, when making combinations of signs, one has to make some restriction in order to maintain clarity, so we decided to have no more than three signs combined into single word. Finally, the last requirement, that of complementarities, needs some explanation. Besides having signs that one can easily recognize and easily draw, one needs some structure to be embedded into composition of signs that facilitates one to remember and learn signs easily. We refer to this structure as complementary or, broadly speaking, associational, and what it implies is that words and objects that are related should have related signs. Thus, for example, pairs of words like man-woman, cat-dog, coffee-tea, good-bad, love-hate, etc., should have signs that are in some opposition, while words like smoke-flame-fire, tree-wood-forest, water-sea-ocean, good-better-best should have signs that are in competition. With this in mind when one sees and learns the basic signs, the meaning of many combinations of signs can be in advance anticipated. This helps one to learn Nobel rather fast; not months, not weeks, perhaps not even days, but a couple of hours may suffice that one may learn hundreds and hundreds of words. In this respect, Nobel may be unique among languages written, spoken of,
