It doesn’t make the other Cape any less real, but it does suggest a symbiosis, in which our sense of the place can’t help but become more complicated, less about vacation living than something more nuanced and profound . . . In part, this has to do with social aspiration, which is one of the things that brought my family, like many others, to the Cape.
