Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: An analysis was made and a solution was found with the aid of an electronic computer for a system of equations for thermal explosions; it is given in partial derivatives for reactions of the zero and first order with heat transfer by conduction in the zone of the reaction and a Newton heat exchange at the boundary. The basic characteristics of thermal explosions are exactly determined. The obtained results are presented in the form of approximate expressions connecting the characteristics of the thermal explosion with all parameters of the problem for a wide range of changes. A criterion is given for the applicability of the averaged volume of the equation for calculating the period of induction, in case the heat transfer in the reacting volume takes place by conduction. A method is offered for averaging the system of equations of thermal explosions. (Author).

Book Synopsis Critical Temperatures for the Thermal Explosion of Chemicals by : Takashi Kotoyori
Download or read book Critical Temperatures for the Thermal Explosion of Chemicals written by Takashi Kotoyori and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2011-08-30 with total page 407 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The value of the critical temperature (Tc), below which the thermal explosion of a chemical cannot occur, is indispensable to prevent such a chemical from exploding. In order to determine the Tc it has so far been necessary to measure the value in explosion experiments. Because of the inherent hazards, only few Tc values are available at present. Critical Temperatures for the Thermal Explosion of Chemicals introduces new and simple procedures to calculate the Tc. As a result Tc can be calculated for a range of chemicals, many of which are listed in this new volume. The calculated values of Tc are shown to be in agreement with experimentally determined values. The data and methods presented in Critical Temperatures for the Thermal Explosion of Chemicals will be of use to research laboratories as well as in the chemical industry. - Introduces new and simple procedures for calculating critical temperatures - Lists the T(c) values of chemicals in tables - Explains mathematical expressions in clear simple terms

Book Synopsis Modeling Explosions and Blast Waves by : K. Ramamurthi
Download or read book Modeling Explosions and Blast Waves written by K. Ramamurthi and published by Springer Nature. This book was released on 2021-06-19 with total page 408 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: b="" The book provides a concise description of the physical processes and mathematical models for explosions and formation of blast waves from explosions. The contents focus on quantitatively determining the energy released in the different types of explosions and the destructive blast waves that are generated. The contribution of flames, detonations and other physical processes to the explosion phenomenon is dealt with in detail. Gaseous and condensed phase explosions are discussed and the yield of explosions with their TNT equivalence is determined. Time scales involved in the explosion process and the scaling procedure are ascertained. Explosions over the ground, in water, and the interaction of explosions with objects are examined. In order to keep the text easily readable, the detailed derivation of the mathematical equations is given in the seven appendices at the end of the book. Case studies of various explosions are investigated and simple problems and their solutions are provided for the different topics to assist the reader in internalizing the explosion process. The book is a useful reference for professionals and academics in aeronautics, mechanical, civil and chemical engineering and for personnel working in explosive manufacture and high-energy materials, armaments, space, defense, and industrial and fire safety.

Download or read book A Critical Condition in Time-dependent Thermal Explosion Theory written by Julius W. Enig and published by . This book was released on 1964 with total page 14 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A criterion defining the explosion time as a function of initial temperature and surface temperature has been derived from an approximate solution of the heat conduction equation for the semi-infinite explosive x>0 at initial temperatures and surface temperature. The chemical reaction is assumed to follow zero order kinetics. For different values of the initial and surface temperatures, the derived explosion times are compared with those previously calculated from numerical solutions and the agreement is found to be satisfactory. This book was released on 1986 with total page 31 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This research project has emphasized the formulation of rational mathematical models for transient and steady combustion processes. In particular thermal explosion, shock wave initiation and high speed combustion waves have been examined. In each case the describing mathematical system is analyzed using both formal and constructive techniques. The former are employed to consider issues of existence and uniqueness, solution bounds and general trajectory properties. Constructive solution development is based on a combination of asymptotic and numerical methods. This hybrid approach to the study of combustion problems has permitted us to develop both a rigorous and quantitative understanding of complex, initial-boundary value problems. Keywords: Thermal explosion; combustion; flames; deflagrations; reactive gas dynamics.
