Book excerpt: At no period in the last century of the history of God's people has there been more emphasis placed upon the Christian life and walk than at the present. For long years the hearts of God's true children have longed for the fullest, richest, closest spiritual life attainable in Christ Jesus. That there was such a deeper, higher, broader life in Christ than the lives of many of His children were exemplifying, was admitted by all. The Word of God promised it; the lives of the early disciples were resplendent with its glory; the hearts of God's devout children clung to it with pathetic persistence. That self-same tenaciousness of faith in the possibility of such a fullness of Christian experience was the Spirit-born and Spirit-fed proof of its existence. Men's hearts would not yield their faith in its existence because the Spirit who dwelt within them would not suffer such faith to perish. Seeing then that he could not banish the vision of the glory-crowned peak, the arch-adversary sought to becloud the pathway to it. Knowing that they would not surrender their faith in the distant haven he essayed to confuse, by a maze of misleading lines, the chart that guided weary seekers to it. As for a thousand years he had blinded the way to the heart-resting peace with God, so now he diligently set himself to darken the path to the heart-keeping peace of God. Error and false teaching of divers and manifold forms swarmed to the becloudment. Perfectionism; sanctification of the flesh; eradication of inbred sin from that in which a holy God declares there "dwelleth no good thing"; holiness teaching with much of truth, yet such serious error in the ignoring and wresting of God's word as has led to pitiable disappointment, and spiritual disaster;--all these have hung about the true pathway to fullness of life in Christ, as the mist and mirage beset the toiling traveler eager to reach his journey's end.

Book excerpt: From the Preface: Every year, during the month of July, thousands of Christians from all parts of the world gather for a Convention for the deepening of the spiritual life, lasting one week, in the little town of Keswick, which nestles at the foot of Skiddaw mountain and beside beautiful Lake Derwentwater, in the Lake District of northern England, a region famous by association with the Lake poets - Wordsworth, Coleridge, and Southey - and for picturesque and fascinating scenery unsurpassed in all England, if not in all Europe. Since 1875, when the first of these Conventions was held, the influence of what is taught there has been increasingly felt in the Christian world, until Keswick teaching has come to be regarded as one of the most potent spiritual forces in recent Church history. The 'Keswick movement' has become historic.... Here, then, we have the teaching of Keswick, one of the most interesting religious phenomena of our time.

New Testament . . . the covenant of God with man embodied in the coming of Christ, his teachings, and that of his followers as set forth in the Bible. Issues . . . a point or matter, the decision of which is of special or public importance. A dicitionary can define the terms, but tackling the tough texts and difficult issues of Old Testament studies requires skillful study and balanced reflection upon the whole of Scripture. Vital New Testament Issues: Examining New Testament Passages and Problems draws upon the insights and study of numerous evangelical scholars and writers to address crucial interpretative questions. Some of the chapters included are The End of the Law by Charles C. Ryrie Tongues and the Mystery Religions of Corinth by H. Wayne House Do the Synoptics Depend on Each Other? by Charles H. Dyer Christian readers, church leaders, and pastors will appreciate the helpful scholarship of Vital New Testament Issues.

Book excerpt: A Study Guide Based on the Award-Winning Novel Come to Me Are you sold out for Christ? Would you do anything He asks you to do? Many people believe they are living fully surrendered lives to God, but when the worries of this world start to crowd in, they cry out in frustration and anger instead of bowing before Him and saying, "Thy will be done." But what does Jesus say about this? How did He lay down His life so willingly? By following the lives of Jesus, His Mother Mary, and the apostles, we can discover what true surrender is all about. Based on the award-winning novel Come to Me, Learning from the Master follows the life of Christ from birth to resurrection. Each chapter in the study will take you through the book Come to Me, giving you the opportunity to know Jesus in an intimate setting as He interacts with His family and friends. From there, the study takes the reader through various topics such as faith, family, trust, doubt, and even wilderness experiences. In addition, other topics of discussion include the significance of the Bethlehem star, the last supper, and of course the resurrection. With over twenty topics of discussion, Learning from the Master: Living a Surrendered Life is ideal for your ladies bible study group, or for private study. Each topic leaves the reader with a clear understanding of how to live a fully surrendered life. "Embracing the fullness of life means accepting the truth to find that life. Laura has captured the essence of pursuing and getting hold of that truth from our Master, Jesus Christ. The beauty in this study guide is that Laura guides us along a rich journey of discovery through the tender, loving eyes of Jesus' mother, Mary. This guide is rich with compassion but chock full of challenges and wisdom. Be prepared to be transformed." - Heidi McLaughlin, Author of Sand to Pearls "Learning from the Master will guide those who read it into a deeper understanding of what it means to live a surrendered life." - Rick Larson, Creator of The Star of Bethlehem DVD ABOUT THE AUTHOR: A singer and a songwriter for over twenty-five years, Laura J.
