Book Synopsis Tumors and Tumorlike Lesions of Bone by : Fritz Schajowicz
Download or read book Tumors and Tumorlike Lesions of Bone written by Fritz Schajowicz and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 945 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: More than ten years have elapsed since the publication of the first edition of Tumors and Tumorlike Lesions of Bone and Joints in 1981. During this period significant progress has been made in diagnosis, and particularly in staging and treatment of bone tumors. In most centers, limb-sparing surgery has replaced the more radical ablative surgery, with or without preoperative chemotherapy. This became possible due to the introduction and increased application of newer high-quality imaging techniques (CT and MRI) and in particular the use of new cytomorphologic methods of diagnosis, especially immunohisto chemistry. These advances in diagnosis and treatment have been reflected by the publication of new editions of several important text books, since their authors - pathologists, orthopedic surgeons, and radiologists - felt the necessity of updating their works in recent years. However, in these publications different criteria of classification were adopted. The number of cases compiled at the Latin American Registry of Bone Pathology increased from 4913 primary bone tumors and more than 1100 tumorlike lesions at the time of publication of the first edition of this book, to 5274 bone tumors and 1665 tumorlike lesions by the end of December 1985, when I finished my work as head of the Registry and occupied the positions of Professor of Orthopedic Pathology at St. Louis University Medical Center and Distinguished Visiting Professor at Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center in Chicago.

Book Synopsis Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage by : Yuehuei H. An
Download or read book Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage written by Yuehuei H. An and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2003-05-01 with total page 582 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Histotechnology and histomorphometry are the major methodologies in bone and cartila- related research. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage is an outgrowth of the editors’ own quest for information on bone and cartilage histology and histomorphometry. It is designed to be an experimental guide for personnel who work in the areas of basic and clinical bone and cartilage, orthopedic, or dental research. It is the first inclusive and organized reference book on histological and histomorphometrical techniques on bone and cartilage specimens. The topic has not previously been covered adequately by any existing books in the field. Handbook of Histology Methods for Bone and Cartilage has six major parts and is designed to be concise as well as inclusive, and more practical than theoretical. The text is simple and straightforward. Large numbers of tables, line drawings, and micro- or macro-photographs, are used to help readers better understand the content. Full bibliographies at the end of each chapter guide readers to more detailed information. A book of this length cannot discuss every method for bone and cartilage histology that has been used over the years, but it is hoped that major methods and their applications have been included.

Book Synopsis Imaging of Bone Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions by : A. Mark Davies
Download or read book Imaging of Bone Tumors and Tumor-Like Lesions written by A. Mark Davies and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2009-08-21 with total page 694 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Detection and characterization of bone tumors with imaging remains a big challenge for every radiologist notwithstanding the impressive progress achieved by the introduction of several new imaging modalities. Moreover, new concepts in surgical and oncological treatment of these lesions require from the radiologist appropriate and focused answers to the specifc questions asked by the referring physicians in order to choose the best therapeutic approach for the in- vidual patient. Tis comprehensive textbook describes in detail the possibilities and limits of all moda- ties, including MRI, CT, nuclear medicine and interventional radiological procedures, employed for the modern imaging of tumoral and tumor-like lesions of bone. Teir role in the diagnosis, surgical staging, biopsy and assessment of response to therapy is discussed in detail, covering all tumor subtypes as well as their specifc anatomical location.Well selected and technically imp- cable illustrations strongly enhance the didactic value of this work. I am very much indebted and grateful to the three editors: A. Mark Davies, Murali Sundaram and Steven L. J. James, world authorities in musculoskeletal radiology, for their superb scientifc achievement in preparing and editing this wonderful volume as well as for their individual ch- ters. I would also like to thank the large international group of collaborating authors, who are also widely acknowledged for their specifc expertise in the area of bone tumors, for their outstanding contributions.
Book Synopsis Current Concepts of Diagnosis and Treatment of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors by : H. K. Uhthoff
Download or read book Current Concepts of Diagnosis and Treatment of Bone and Soft Tissue Tumors written by H. K. Uhthoff and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 435 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: During the past decade, the prognosis of bone and soft tissue tumors has improved considerably. This progress has not only been due to improved therapeutics and diagnostic methods but also due to a team approach now universally adopted. Comparison of results, possible today, were hampered in the past by lack of a clinically relevant staging system and definitive treatment proto cols. The complexity of the therapeutic management of bone tumors re quires a constant exposure to tumors, highly skilled diagnostic tech niques, and specialized expertise. It is therefore not surprising to learn that small and medium-sized hospitals embarking on the diagnosis and treatment of bone and soft tissue tumors are generally less success ful than better equipped major centers. This fact has already been recognized by most physicians and surgeons who now refer their patients to specialized oncologic centers. Nevertheless, they all have to know the present state of the art. This symposium was therefore mostly addressed to them. This international symposium, organized by the Division of Orthopaedic Surgery, University of Ottawa, and cosponsored by the Association des Chirurgiens Orthopedistes du Quebec, was held in Ottawa from May 12-14, 1983. Each of the 40 presentations clearly demonstrates that disregard for proper staging before initiation of treatment and omission of a clearly defined treatment protocol is definitely unacceptable in view of the knowledge we have acquired.
