Book Synopsis God of Love and God of Reason by : David R. Mason
Download or read book God of Love and God of Reason written by David R. Mason and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2016-02-18 with total page 183 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: These homilies, lectures, and essays vigorously champion the author's conviction that it is reasonable to believe in a God of "pure unbounded love" and, also, that the best religion is a reasonable religion. That is, "the God of Love" is "the God of Reason" and, as a seventeenth-century Cambridge preacher put it, "If you would be religious, be rational in your religion." Thus, these essays challenge both the New Atheists and Fundamentalists, who are twins like Tweedledum and Tweedledee. And they aim, positively, to unpack the meaning and implications of Jesus' dictum: "You shall love the Lord your God with all your heart, and with all your soul, and with all your mind. This is the greatest and first commandment. And the second is like it: You shall love your neighbor as yourself. On these two commandments hang all the law and the prophets."

Book Synopsis More Than a Promise by : Hurbert F. Sturges
Download or read book More Than a Promise written by Hurbert F. Sturges and published by TEACH Services, Inc.. This book was released on 2013-10-31 with total page 304 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: As soon as there was sin, there was a Savior. From times eternal, God knew that Satan would introduce sin into planet earth, infecting its inhabitants. Out of His great love for the human family, the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit united in carrying out the great plan of redemption and in fulfilling the everlasting covenant of grace. In Mark’s hard-hitting Gospel, the Son of God suddenly appears, rising out of the Jordan River, hair wet, anointed by the heavenly dove and surrounded by the thunder-like echo of His Father’s approval. From this point on, all of Jesus’ recorded words and actions move steadily and unflinchingly toward Christ’s sacrifice on the cross, where He suffered and died for the redemption of humankind. Popular beliefs about the covenant have fragmented God’s interactions with the human race, insisting that God’s plan of redemption for the Jews on Sinai had little or nothing to do with His plan of redemption for new covenant believers. Taking his cue from Paul’s aligning of God’s new covenant promise with His covenant with Abraham and from Peter’s New Testament repetition of God’s promise of His people being “a holy nation,” Dr. Hubert F. Sturges argues convincingly and biblically that there is more continuity than discontinuity in God’s covenants with the human race. Tracing God’s saving actions through Scripture and history, Dr. Sturges reveals the strategic steps that the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit took in fulfilling their continuing commitment to the human family. With bite-sized chapters, divided into three sections, More Than a Promise: The Everlasting Covenant as Presented Throughout Historywill cause you to reflect on God’s great love and mercy for the human race.

Book Synopsis Julius Buckler: "Malaula!" by : Norman Franks
Download or read book Julius Buckler: "Malaula!" written by Norman Franks and published by Casemate Publishers. This book was released on 2012-11-15 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The memoir of a German fighter ace that gives a much-needed perspective on what it was like to fight for the Central Powers during World War I. This important work was first published in German in late 1939, no doubt timed to impress the young Luftwaffe fighter pilots who were embarking on the second major air war in history. Buckler initially served with the army when the Great War began, until he was wounded and moved to the air service to train as a pilot. Following a baptism of fire flying two-seat reconnaissance missions over France, he became a fighter pilot, joining Jasta 17 in late 1916. Despite receiving several more wounds, he continued in action, finally being awarded the highest decoration of the Pour le Mérite and ending the war with 36 victories over British and French aircraft. Not so much a war diary, his book is more a collection of memories told in a refreshing and entertaining manner. Renowned air historian Norman Franks has placed these in context and added accurate and authenticated details of what Buckler achieved. However, the fighter ace’s original words remain largely unchanged, and Adam Wait’s expert translation gives a valuable insight into what it was like to fly over the Western Front from the other side of the line. “A well rounded, thorough investigation of a topic that would otherwise have remained unknown to most American readers . . . superior and highly recommended.” —Indy Squadron Dispatch
