The dreaded election passed over very quietly, the Conservative candidate Was returned Without opposition, and Shaddon quickly fell back into its old grooves, nor had there Since been another election to disturb its normal tranquillity. A pleasant place, in its way, was Shaddon (we refer to about ten years ago) - where any one, overwrought by the hurry and excitement of life, might spend a little time very happily, to rest and recruit. There was good trout fishing in that clear stream which, now Winding through green fields, now Sparkling over stones, had the effect of a bright eye in the landscape. The air was very fine; it could not be otherwise, blowing over such scented meadows. Scattered here and there were a few gentle men's residences, more or less pretentious in appearance, and it is to one of these that we would draw your attention.
