Book Synopsis Dikes and Revetments by : Kristian Pilarczyk
Download or read book Dikes and Revetments written by Kristian Pilarczyk and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2017-11-22 with total page 592 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Low-lying countries, such as the Netherlands, are strongly dependent on good and safe sea defences. In the past, the design of dikes and revetments was mostly based on vague experience, rather than on general valid calculation methods. The demand for reliable design methods for protective structures has, in the Netherlands, resulted in increased research in this field. These contributions have been prepared by Dutch experts participating in the study groups of the Technical Advisory Committee on Water Defences. The book opens with an outline of general strategy and methodology on sea defences, illustrated in the following chapters by technical information on specific items and Dutch experience, and it ends with more general aspects such as probabilistic approach, integral (multifunctional) design, management & safety assessment. Together, these chapters provide an almost complete technical overview of the items needed for the design and maintenance of dikes and revetments. The enclosed CRESS-program allows for an initial estimation of hydraulic loads and preliminary design.
Book Synopsis Evaluation of a Concrete Building Block Revetment by : Michael L. Giles
Download or read book Evaluation of a Concrete Building Block Revetment written by Michael L. Giles and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page 12 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This paper presents the results of a two-dimensional laboratory evaluation of a beach revetment plan that uses common concrete building blocks as the revetment armor unit. This type of revetment is appropriate for use along semiprotected shorelines of bays, reservoirs, lakes and other areas exposed to low to moderate wave attack. The research was conducted at prototype scale in the two-dimensional large wave tank facility at the U.S. Army Coastal Engineering Research Center (CERC), Ft. Belvoir, Virginia.

Book Synopsis Introduction to Bed, Bank and Shore Protection by : Gerrit J. Schiereck
Download or read book Introduction to Bed, Bank and Shore Protection written by Gerrit J. Schiereck and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2017-12-21 with total page 416 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Introduction to Bed, Bank and Shore Protection provides students and professional engineers with the understanding and guidance to prevent the erosion of movable beds, banks and shorelines. In a world of rising sea levels and extreme weather conditions, these skills are increasingly important to the engineer as well as the wider community. The book starts with the underlying scientific principles behind hydraulics and soil mechanics and applies them to common practical situations for the protection of coastal and river beds, banks and shores. Based on the author's twenty years of experience, this blend of theory and practice provides the reader with useful knowledge that can be applied to a wide range of situations for the protection of the environment.
