Book Synopsis Organizational Control Mechanisms by : Rajendra Prasad Singh
Download or read book Organizational Control Mechanisms written by Rajendra Prasad Singh and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1988 with total page 168 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: People seem to be ``either-or thinkers''; either this must be true or that must be true. As opposed to this there are people who believe that nothing is absolutely true and it is the time and the place which will determine the choice of an idea or a strategy. The approach of this book is opposed to both these extremes and alternatively takes a position which may be termed dialectical. It posits the possibility that both ``X and not X'' may be true at the same time and place. It conceives of social reality in the critical-conflict perspective and presents a model of behaviour control-mechanisms that may be effective in an organizational context. Besides being useful to the managers and union leaders of various government and non-government manufacturing and service organizations it has attempted to steer out a theoretical approach that may be adopted in understanding, predicting and controlling the behaviour of personnel of any hierarchy in a organization.

It is an independent Axiological study which gives an integral system of values in the Vedas. The attempt made by the Author is novel and adventurous and its findings are profound. Book excerpt: A biographical sketch of Georgi Stoikov Rakovski who is widely known in Bulgaria as the founder of the organized Bulgarian National Liberation Movement. His activity is closely connected with the whole new stage in the history of the Bulgarian National Revival. This passionate and ardent revolutionary was a versatile personality; a poet, Downalist, historian, ethnographer, numismatist, diplomat, student of folklore, linguist. In addition to this, his efforts to establish unity and understanding among the Balkan nations made him one of the most outstanding politicians of the Balkans in the middle of the 19th century. Rakovski was the first in Europe to create a consciousness about Hindustan. Eversince 1857, the fountainhead of Indian studies in Eastern Europe he did significant work in Sanskrit literature, philosophy and folklore, ethnography and numismatics. A glowing tribute to Rakovski, the work explores what he left behind. A detailed study of his single-handed contribution in the field of Indology that can be a matter of pride for any cultural centre. This book is a biographical sketch of Georgi Stoikov Rakovski who firmly believed that the source of all the civilizations of the world is India. Though brought up in the tradition of Hellenic culture, he was drawn to the culture and literature of India. He translated a part of the Ramayana. It was as early as 1857 that he published in his newspaper a series of reports about the struggle of the Indian people, about their resistance to the oppresser. It’s as far back as 130 years he wrote in his paper “India must belong to the people of India and not to England, sooner or later, this must be so†. This book pays a glowing tribute to Rakovski and explores in detail his single handed contribution in the field of Indology and Balkan studies. It can be a matter of pride and research for any centre of Indology and Balkan studies. Reviews G. Mukerjee writes about Rakovski’s role in bringing home to his countrymen the great civilization of India and its struggle for freedom from the British. The book makes it clear that Bulgaria owes a great deal to his patriot. Pavanmeet Sethy, Patriot, New Delhi, 4 Oct., 1987. A book like this jointly authored by Veselin Traikov and G. Mukerjee, the noted Indian Scholar on Eastern Europe, is particularly welcome because it portrays objectively the life of Georgi Stoikov Rakovski, an extraordinary revolutionary who defied all resistance from the weilders of political power. It also describes important aspects of his ideas and ideals with which India came to be related quite deeply. ``... Rakovski’s researches were remarkable and one hopes there will be no dearth of scholars in this country to start again from where Rakovski left''. Biswajit Ray, Amrita Bazar Patrika, Calcutta, 2 August, 1987. This is a holy and precious book and I shall read it with great interest “this precious book will have a place of honour in our libarary.....†Devika Rani, Bangalore. ``I would like to assure you that the book is very interesting and useful and its publication will strengthen the bonds of friendship between India and Bulgarian People''. L. Darkim, Charge of Affairs a.i., Embassy of India, Sofia. ``Georgi Stoikov Rakovski was born in April 1821 in Kotel in a family of old revolutionary traditions and a spirit of independence. It was as early as 1857 that he published a series of reports about the struggles of the Indian people and their resistance to the British Oppressors. He wrote in his paper regarding the struggle of 1857, ``India must be free'' and ``India must belong to the people of India and not to England.'' Although he was brought up in the traditions of Hellenic Culture, he was drawn to the culture and literature of India. He translated a part of the Ramayana. Indeed, in the history of Indo-Bulgarian relations, the name of Georgi Stoikov Rakovski towers over all as one of the greatest friends of India. Indian antiquity, Indian culture and the people of India.'' Patriot, November 1, 1987, New Delhi.

Book excerpt: This book is the outcome of a field study of 162 suicide cases conducted in two suicide prone Upazilas of Jheneidah District in Bangladesh. The adolescent females and males were found to be the most suicide prone. The major factors that drive the victims to commit suicide were found to be bad relationship between husbands and wives, family quarrels, poverty, suffering from chronic and incurable diseases, etc. In Jheneidah the majority of the suicide victims were young housewives between 16–25 years of age. Unmet dowry demands, the desire of husband to marry for the second time and family quarrels led to torture of young housewives by their husbands and in-laws specially mother-in-laws. Illiteracy, poverty and total economic dependence on husbands or parents appeared to be the major contributory factors behind these suicide cases. It is suggested that the laws against polygamy and dowry system should be strictly enforced and special legal aid should be provided to help the parents of suicide victims. The book also discusses the socio-economic and psychological conditions of suicide victims, the factors which compelled them to commit suicide, methods of committing suicide and the months, timing and place of suicide. A brief description of 19 suicide cases has been given in the book. Some measures for reducing and preventing the incidence of suicide have also been suggested.

Download or read book Muslims in India written by Qamar Hasan and published by Northern Book Centre. This book was released on 1987 with total page 268 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The work is unique in the sense that it has not only delved into historical antecedents of the contemporary attitudes of the new generation of Indian Muslims, but has also brought out their adjustment mechanisms and reactions to the demands which are made upon them from a section of the majority. For the understanding of different aspects of behaviour of the minority vis-a-vis the majority, the author has liberally drawn upon the relevant literature of three branches of social sciences, viz., Psychology, Sociology and Political Science. The studies of minority-majority relations elsewhere are referred to for making the reader aware that to a very large extent minorities, wherever they are found, behave in the similar way. Reviews “... The perspective offered by the author in the present study augurs well for the cause of nation-building in the specific context of the persisting and ever elusive communal problem in India.†Prof. Iqbal Narain “The publication is so fascinating that I read more than half by the time I reached Lucknow†. Prof. H.S. Asthana “The first full length study of the mass psychology of the Muslim mind after Mujib’s The Indian Musilms .... Qamar Hasan has used the tools of academic research to study the Muslim factor in Indian Politics... read it because it is a same voice in the madness all around. Tapan Basu, Sunday “The book clearly brings out reactions indicative of fear of domination and urge to dominate ... the book has made a definite contribution in the understanding of inter-and intra-group relationships.†Pramod Kumar “The author must be complimented for his bold and frank revelations about the attitudes of Muslims and Hindus towards each other, their self appraisals and their assessment.†Dr. K. Ravichandra, Review Projector, Vol. VIII, Nos. 10–12 “The causes and cures of the serious problems bedevilling relations between the Muslim minority in India and the Hindu majority badly need studying within a socio-psychological framework. Qamar Hasan is on the right track for a social scientist to throw light on the problems of his people, but he needs to settle on just one frame of reference and typology and then test some bolder hypotheses.’’
