This volume, Skin Microbiology: Relevance to Clinical Infection, reviews developments in the field since 1965 and summarizes the current state ofthe art in thirty-six carefully prepared chapters. Emphasis is on the clinical per spective rather than straight microbiology, although we include enough of the latter to put the clinical aspects in a proper scientific context. While ensuring consistency with the Guidelines recommendations, individual adaptation according to local regulations, settings, needs, and resources is desirable. This extensive review includes in one document sufficient technical information to support training materials and help plan implementation strategies. The document comprises six parts.
