Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This data collection is the second round in a series of surveys (begun in 1996) of Filipino youth. Six surveys were implemented in November 1997 throughout the Philippines, and this data collection consists of four parts for each of the six surveys administered. In particular, this data collection (1) allows comparison with youth issues and concerns asked about in the 1996 set of surveys, (2) monitors new youth issues and concerns that might have appeared since 1996, and (3) provides a picture of special youth groups in other parts of the Philippines outside of the National Capital Region (NCR). Respondents were queried about such topics as needs and aspirations, education, employment, satisfaction on certain aspects of life, activities and involvement, experience of discrimination, and religiosity. Further questions covered mass media, exposure to mass media, role models, the youth legislature known as Sangguniang Kabataan (SK), government programs and policies, and their experiences with sexual, illegal, and socially undesirable activities. Economic indicators and sociodemographic characteristics were also collected ... Cf. : http://webapp.icpsr.umich.edu/cocoon/ICPSR-STUDY/04437.xml.

Book excerpt: "Adolescents and young adults, who comprise a significant portion of Philippine society, are known to be prone to particular types of risks. Some speculate that societies with large proportions of young people may be subjected to dynamic, and potentially disruptive, political and social movements. The rapid growth of the youth population too, creates pressure on the state to expand education, health, and employment programs for this age group. Policymakers must keep in mind, however, that the period of expansion for government to cope with the needs of large numbers of youth is short. For efficient plans and programs, there is a need to know not just the number of youths to which the services shall be delivered, but also where they are and who they are. This paper, therefore, presents a profile of the youth. Following UN practice, the youth is defined as the 15 to 24 year age group"--P. 1.

Book Synopsis The World's Youth by : Benson Bradford Brown
Download or read book The World's Youth written by Benson Bradford Brown and published by Cambridge University Press. This book was released on 2002-10-10 with total page 388 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The life stage of adolescence now occurs in most corners of the world, but it takes different forms in different regions. Peers, with such a central role in Western adolescence, play a comparatively minor role in the lives of Arabic and South Asian adolescents. Emotional turmoil and individuation from family occur in some societies but not others. Adolescent sexual revolutions are sweeping through Japan and Latin America. In this 2002 book, scholars from eight regions of the world describe the distinct nature of adolescence in their regions. They draw on research to address standard topics regarding this age - family and peer relationships, schooling, preparation for work, physical and mental health - and show how these have a different cast across societies. As a whole, the book depicts how rapid global change is dramatically altering the experience of the adolescent transition, creating opportunities and challenges for adolescents, parents, teachers, and concerned others.

Book Synopsis Cultural Perspectives on Youth Justice by : Elaine Arnull
Download or read book Cultural Perspectives on Youth Justice written by Elaine Arnull and published by Springer. This book was released on 2016-06-29 with total page 230 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Young people, crime and delinquency are words that are commonly linked in public perception and young people are often blamed for social ills. Their deviancy and threat to social control has been held to be a social fact from Plato to today. This book subjects that ‘fact’ to critical examination through consideration of youth justice systems in six different countries, drawing on sociological and criminological analysis as well as expert practitioner opinion. This book's comparative, cultural approach allows for consideration of the impact of new and emergent systems of communication and discourse and considers how these may impact future constructions of delinquency at a local and global level. Understanding changing constructions of delinquency, the systems and responses we already have and their strengths and weaknesses enables critique about what we do and what we know, and allows us to imagine how it might be otherwise.
