Book excerpt: As Brother Amos grows to be the Teacher for all of Tonath, he must stand against the heresies of the Silver Institute in Anoth and the Green Institute in Greenland. Jack Donald has returned to his birth planet, but cannot find proof of long ago documents. Venta Strauss struggles to provide a haven for the poor, and Grant Vidal is the Green Marauder, accustomed to taking what he wants. These are the three people who struggle to find their way in a new part of their world. One will become the new Teacher, one will rescue the older, destitute women on the planet, and one will give his life to save the others. The leaders of the Mechams use the Silver Institute to spread their version of the Star Paths, and the Greenlanders use the Green Institute to spread their version. This means there are fights, wars, raids, love triangles, and people fighting to survive.

Book Synopsis Burmese Silver from the Colonial Period by : Alexandra Green
Download or read book Burmese Silver from the Colonial Period written by Alexandra Green and published by Ad Ilissum. This book was released on 2022-01-04 with total page 256 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This stunning catalogue presents an exceptional collection of rare Burmese silver. Accompanied by detailed photographs and explanatory texts, this ground-breaking book proposes a new way of looking at Burmese silver. Names, dates, places, and stories - identifying the who, when, where, and what of Burmese silver has been the focus of publications on the topic. Are these questions the best way to understand silver, however? Alexandra Green argues that they are not. Too few pieces provide reliable information about silversmiths, production locations, and dates to allow for a comprehensive understanding of the subject. Instead, a close examination of silver patterns reveals strong links with Burmese art history reaching as far back as the Bagan period (11th to 13th centuries), connections with contemporary artistic trends, and participation within the wider world of silversmithing. The first European to write about Burmese silver was H L Tilly, a colonial official from the late 19th into the early 20th century. Tasked with collecting objects for various fairs and exhibitions, he took an interest in Burmese art, publishing articles and books from the 1880s onwards. While much of what he wrote was factually inaccurate and coloured by the prejudices and stereotypes common at the time, his two volumes on Burmese silver published in 1902 and 1904 contain pictures of pieces from the early to mid 19th century. These enable a reconstruction of how silver designs evolved as the country was absorbed into the Indian Raj, and British and other Westerners became consumers of local silver products. Tilly was also correct in his interest in silver designs. Green uses the visual information from his books to describe the continuities and innovations of designs found on silver from the mid 19th through the mid 20th century, and she places these trends within local, regional, and global flows of ideas. Many studies of Burmese silver have been plagued by a lack of understanding of the Burmese context. In contrast, Green examines silver from a local perspective, drawing on Burmese texts and information that allows for a nuanced view of the motifs, designs, and patterns that appear repetitively on silver pieces. Using Graham Honeybill's collection, formed over many years, as a basis, she explores how designs and patterns circulated around the country and were innovatively combined and recombined on pieces by silversmiths producing objects for Burmese, Western, and commercial clients.

Download or read book Green Synthesis of Silver Nanomaterials written by Kamel A. Abd-Elsalam and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2021-10-28 with total page 798 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Green Synthesis of Silver Nanomaterials illustrates how to biologically scale up silver nanoparticle synthesis. This book covers green synthesis of silver nanomaterials, via plants, agricultural waste, fungi, and microorganisms. Sections cover the synthesis and characterization of chemical and green synthesis, various types of silver nanomaterialism, the ability of different fungal species, such as filamentous fungi, to produce silver nanoparticles, the microbial synthesis of silver NMs, biosynthesis mechanisms, toxicity, fate and commercialization. As examples, greener pathways and mechanisms, toxicity of silver nanoparticles in aquatic life and in natural eco-systems, and strategies for the scaling up of green-synthesized nanomaterials are discussed. With the extended work in enhancing nanomaterials synthesis performance, and discovering their biomedical, environmental, and agricultural applications, it is hoped that the execution of these methods on a large scale and their industrial applications in different fields will take place in the near future. - Assesses the impact of a large variety of silver-based nanostructures in the biomedical, environmental and agri-food sectors - Discusses the major synthesis methods used for effectively processing plant-based silver nanoparticles - Outlines the potential and major challenges for adopting green synthesis methods on a mass scale

This book was released on 2018-09-10 with total page 315 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book brings together experts from four continents (Asia, North America, Europe, Africa) and from varied disciplines to discuss a spectrum of problems created by globalization, such as the economic and financial, environmental, legal, cultural, socio-economic and social media impacts. The book not only examines the problems from a number of different perspectives, but also considers the impact of globalization in emerging nations around the world. Due to the very nature of these problems, the approaches adopted are both qualitative and quantitative; it includes quantitative research on quantum finance and the financial crisis, and also discussions on qualitative problems, such as cultural imperialism and neoliberalism. Of interest to economic researchers and management professionals, the book is also a valuable resource for social media researchers, environment scientists, and non-technical readers concerned with socio-political issues. This single volume offers a holistic view and therefore a more complete picture of the problems posed by globalization.
