Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The fallen cross stands as a symbol for the spiritual condition of the church of Jesus Christ in the early days of the twenty-first century. In many places and many churches, the cross has fallen to the ground. Instead of boasting in the cross, we have neglected it, substituting in its place religious activity and therapeutic language designed to help us feel better about ourselves...And yet, when the story is truly told, it must be said that Christianity is supremely the religion of the cross. At the center of our faith a dying man hangs suspended between heaven and earth. Pastor Ray Pritchard takes a fresh look at the cross and the God-man on it and asks: who is He? why is He there? what are the words he is speaking? What did the cross mean to God? What did the cross mean to Satan? What does the cross mean to you today? Pastor Ray Pritchard asks these spiritually provocative questions in what will prove to be a spiritual tonic for your soul. Center your world around the anchor of our faith -- the cross. Discover the atonement found where grace and wrath meet. Linger at the foot of the cross.

Book excerpt: This anthology of essays about Jesus Christ consists of ninety articles originally published in a Christian Magazine, The Christian Journal. Since there are ninety essays, it can be read in conjunction with one’s daily devotions as a 90-day devotional. The essays are divided into sixty-one topics covering a multitude of life issues such as faith, God’s love, holiness, integrity, marriage, miracles, purpose of life (see Shifting Shadows essay), repentance, righteousness, and many other issues faced by Christian believers in their every-day lives. It was written as an inspiration of the Holy Spirit to fulfill the command of the Lord Jesus Christ to make disciples of all nations by sharing the Gospel, the good news about the kingdom of God and of the salvation He offers to those who believe and have faith in Him.

The dark shadow of the executioner's cross sliced across that unforgettable day. A tragic day -- yet planned by a sovereign God. Watch anew as Jesus prays his prayer of submission to the Father's will, as he passes through the sting of betrayal, as he faces undaunted the inhumane and hateful treatment, and as he speaks unexpected last words that leave a legacy of love. Walk with Jesus from the garden to the tomb, to that first Easter morning, the dawning of hope and joy. For the shadow of the cross is the anguished prelude to the best news you will ever hear: ÒHe is risen!

Book excerpt: The Shadow of Calvary is a classic of Christian literature in which Hugh Martin leads us through the garden of Gethsemane to the arrest and the trial of Jesus. Martin interprets these events in the light of the fulfillment of the Scriptures. Chance is that you do not entirely understand what Calvary meant to Jesus. Here Martin leads us through the biblical account of Calvary taking you through every step of the Shadow of Calvary. Most modern preaching and writing simply scraps the surface of God's Word, Martin reaches the heart of the sacrifice and love shown on the cross.

Book excerpt: Gethsemane, the place of the deepest sorrows of Christ, is where we see our Savior feeling the beginning of His last part of humiliation, trials, and sufferings that would culminate at the Cross. The events surrounding the tree major events - Gethsemane, the arrest, and trial of Christ - are developing so fast in the Gospel accounts, that we are apt to leave out many of the most precious truths about the humiliation and sufferings of the Jesus Christ, the Son of God. Follow the author as he seeks to expound on the three major events before the death of Christ, showing how we should look at these and how they apply to our very lives. Your devotion to Christ will be richly blessed. Hugh Martin (1822-1885) was a Scottish Presbyterian pastor, best known for his doctrinal books on the atonement. This book has been originally published in 1875. Current edition has been proofread, typeset for eBook readers, and updated for modern readers.

Book excerpt: In the Shadows of Calvary's Cross is a journey not only into the past of a small college that has faded into history, but also the miracles that occurred on and around the campus. Founded by men of vision such as Dr. Edward O. Guerrant, in 1913, the mission was to bring Christian education to a post war world. Dr. Guerrant had been a soldier during the War Between the States, an author, an educator, doctor, and a minister of the gospel. He was led to establish settlement schools within the Appalachian region of eastern Kentucky. His passion for his ministry led him to many states raising funds so his vision of Christian Education within the mountain range of Appalachia would materialize. While traveling in the back roads along the North Fork of Kentucky river, some of his ministries, known as Society of Soul Winners, encountered several boys swimming in the river on a Sunday. After talking to them, they realized that most had never heard of Sunday School. The first presentation of the gospel was given along the creek bank. Upon returning from the mountains, the men shared their experiences. Dr. Guerrant recognized the need and that indeed God had guided them to the quaint little villa known as Blackey. Thus began the formation of a settlement school called Stuart Robinson. In the document entitled, Shadows of Calvary's Cross, over one hundred years of history within the region known as eastern Kentucky is covered. It serves as a reminder of what men and women of vision can do when God guides their hands.
