Book Synopsis A Portrait of Jesus by : T. A. Prickett
Download or read book A Portrait of Jesus written by T. A. Prickett and published by Author House. This book was released on 2010-08-03 with total page 194 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The impulse to publish these sermons came to me after I had successfully published my book, For Our Age of Anxiety, based on the Sermon on the Mount. All of these sermons were first written and preached while I was pastor of the Seven Hills Baptist Church in Owensboro, Kentucky where I served for thirty-four years. As I considered the idea of publishing a follow up book of sermons from the remaining chapters of Matthew, I went to my files and began the process of selecting the sermons to be included. After I had selected these sermons, I began to see that they could be put together under the theme of a portrait of Jesus. This book features sermons that focus on the early days of the ministry of Jesus particularly as they related to the ministry of John the Baptist. They also shed some light on the temptations of Jesus in the desert, on the call of those who would be his first disciples, and what is involved in being a disciple of Jesus then and now. Some of the sermons are based on the miracles of Jesus, thus revealing the compassion of Jesus. These sermons also deal with the idea of the Kingdom of God, showing some of the principles and characteristics of the Kingdom. The last two sermons are about the person of Jesus. It is my hope that these sermons will indeed help the reader to draw his or her own mental and spiritual portrait of Jesus.

Book Synopsis Sermons of George Whitefield: The 57 Preaching Lectures on Christian Theology, History, Bible Doctrine and Prophecy, Complete by : George Whitefield
Download or read book Sermons of George Whitefield: The 57 Preaching Lectures on Christian Theology, History, Bible Doctrine and Prophecy, Complete written by George Whitefield and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2018-08-02 with total page 500 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A total of 57 lectures of George Whitefield, one of the most celebrated preachers of England and the American colonies in the 18th century, are presented here. Together, these lectures offer a profound insight into an innovative and often controversial preacher. A man of immense gifts for expression, George Whitefield would commonly drive an audience to tears with his sincere expressions of faith. Pushing the boundaries of his era, Whitefield rebelled against church authority and claimed that God himself permitted that he preach itinerant indoors and in the open air. Whitefield rose from humble beginnings to become one of the most pivotal Christians of his era. Too poor to afford tutelage, the young Whitefield managed to avoid tuition by acting as a servant to other students; assisting them to wash; cleaning their quarters; and carrying their books and satchels. Such menial work appeared to fire George Whitefield's spirit; he converted to Christianity and fervently attended to his studies thereafter.
Book Synopsis Jesus' Words on Salvation by : Douglas J. Del Tondo
Download or read book Jesus' Words on Salvation written by Douglas J. Del Tondo and published by Infinity. This book was released on 2008-02 with total page 647 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A Christian attorney argues that Bonhoeffer was correct when he said we have developed a "Christianity without Christ" and exchanged Jesus' gospel of costly grace for one of "cheap grace." Del Tondo reviews all the major salvation statements and parables by Jesus. He then compares them to the prevalent doctrines of 'faith alone' which Bonhoeffer called 'cheap grace.' Del Tondo demonstrates that Jesus' doctrines on salvation insisted upon repentance from sin and obedience to His principles, thereby falsifying faith alone doctrine.

It includes 3 essays written by Martens himself, as well as 15 others written by his former students, colleagues, friends, and even one of his professors! The essays are clustered around three topics—Christians’ use of the Old Testament, aligning God’s people with God’s call for justice, and addressing the issue of land in the life of God’s people—each of which reflects an area of special interest to Martens. A biographical sketch, a list of the honoree’s varied publications, and indexes are included. Martens has had a productive career as teacher, author, and preacher—a career spanning almost six decades and five continents. After 40 years of seminary teaching, Elmer is known to many as professor. He taught his signature class, Old Testament theology, from 1968 to 2004 at Mennonite Brethren Biblical Seminary, shaping an entire generation of preachers and Bible teachers. His Old Testament theology textbook, God’s Design, now in its third edition, continues to be used at the seminary as well as in translation in numerous other schools around the world.
