Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The highly successful Grumpy Old Woman returns - and this time she's even grumpier! 'It feels like only yesterday I was the youngest person in the room, I had my whole life in front of me. I had time to burn, I spent my whole day snogging boys and backcombing my hair. I was a young thing, with a lovely body, life was fun, and I hadn't a care in the world. Now - it feels like two minutes later - I'm a little bit old. OK, I'm not in elasticated stockings or on Meals on Wheels whizzing down the stairs on my stairlift, but my life is more than half over. I've been there, done that, got the packamac. I'm so old that I remember dances with drum solos, the arrival of unisex hairdressers and had a crush on Ilya Kuryakin. I am up at the top of the hill, and over the other side again. What all this means, is that I am grumpy. But I've earnt it... I lived through Boney M and leg warmers and the Crossroads Motel. Obviously in a book this size I wouldn't be able to share with you ALL of my grumps. But I've decided to write down some of the secret thoughts that beset a woman of a certain age, some of the wicked things that occur to a woman who takes a lot of things to the dry cleaners, has to have her roots done every four weeks and finds it hard to wear high heels. And guess what: they still fancy people, still have silly little crushes on people at work, still - shock horror - have sex. You will discover that women of a certain age are just as provocative and turned on as women in their twenties. Probably more so. So get over it. Middle-aged women are sexy, funny and infinitely lovable. They are also taking over the world.'

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: To everything there is a season. A time to be born, a time to die ... and a time to have a bloody good moan. Following the huge success of Grumpy Old Men, Stuart Prebble, writer of the highly acclaimed TV series, gives us a more in-depth look at what it's really like to be a pissed-off man of a certain age. In painstaking detail, he takes us through a year in the constantly irritated life of a Grumpy Old Man, recounting the manifold vexations and absurdities he has to put up with in the perpetual torment that we call modern living. Drinks parties, holidays, hospital visits, his children's misdemeanours, buying presents for the wife, watching television, attempts to visit the gym, trips to the shops, the trials and tribulations of everyday life - each event has something to tip him over the edge. Stuart's diary proves that grumpiness is not just an occasional mood or a temporary feeling, but a way of looking at the world, and will strike a chord with all those who are proud to call themselves Grumpy Old Men.

Download or read book Mum in a Million written by Judith Holder and published by Orion. This book was released on 2012-02-16 with total page 195 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: There is no one quite like your mother - but along with the unconditional love and understanding, this also means that there is no one else who always knows when you're fibbing, or where you keep your diary, or the terribly amusing thing you once said at a family wedding when you were five. In an affectionate, amusing and mischievous book, Judith Holder's tribute to motherhood covers everything from mothers through the ages (it's not only the Virgin Mary who we wish had had an immaculate conception) to maternal anxiety and those little things she says and why she says them: 'You're not going out like that', 'What are you doing inside on a lovely day like today?', and the classic 'because I said so.' Using interviews and testimonies from mothers and daughters of all ages, this is a humorous look at motherhood and everything that goes with it, with beautifully illustrated and funny line drawings integrated into the text.

But how do you cope when, to top it all off, you discover you are almost old enough to be the mother of everyone else in your birth prep group? Daily Mail 'Brilliantly observed... funny, embarrassing and yet cruelly honest. It feels good to laugh about it, now the stitches are out.' Fay Ripley 'Warm, witty and very, very wise the perfect antidote to all those po-faced pregnancy books. As a fellow ''Geriatric Mother'' I found myself constantly laughing and nodding along in agreement.' Imogen Edwards-Jones

Download or read book The Secret Diary written by Anna Stuart and published by Bookouture. This book was released on 2021-08-03 with total page 342 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Two women. One house. And a secret that spans decades... The past merges with the present in an unforgettable, poignant story of love, loss and courage in this beautifully written story set between World War Two and the present day. She steps into the room and it's like going back in time. Catapulting her right into the heart of the 1940s. The spindle of the record player frozen and ready to play. The flowery wallpaper faded but intact. A soldier's uniform pressed and hung on a door, coal still in the fireplace. A floorboard creaks beneath her and she notices a small desk in the corner of the room. She opens the top drawer and runs her hands along the edges, something catching at her fingertips. A hidden compartment. And behind it, the soft edges of a book. As she dusts it off, she can see it has a red leather covering, the pages yellowing with age. She realises it's a diary. Some of the pages have been torn out. The first entry has 16th June 1945 printed in neat little letters at the top. Below it, in hurried, untidy script are the words: 'My name is Nancy Jones. And I have a secret...' Fans of The Tattooist of Auschwitz, The Alice Network, and Lilac Girls will love this incredible tale of the amazing bravery and inspiring friendships of everyday women during World War Two that had the power to change history. Why readers love Anna Stuart: 'I absolutely LOVE this book... it had my heart breaking and tears constantly streaming down my face!... I can't give this enough praise, I genuinely loved it so much... A beautiful love story... an emotional rollercoaster... such a tear jerker. Absolutely recommended from me, you NEED to read this!' Curled Up With a Good Book,⭐⭐⭐⭐⭐ 'Oh my heart...
