Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Santa Claus Enigma What is an enigma? According to the dictionary definition it is; a person or thing that is mysterious, puzzling, or difficult to understand. Santa Claus fits into all three parts of this definition. He is certainly mysterious, popping in and out of homes at Christmastime without people knowing he has been there and gone. Santa is puzzling. Precisely why does he bring toys and gifts to the Christian world, and ask nothing in return except good behavior from the recipients? And through his flying around the world with unusual modes of transportation, distributing billions of presents, and answering to a variety of names and dress, Santa is difficult to understand to the common man or woman. This book will solve many of the questions above and a few more. The elves compiled the most sought after questions and secrets about this mysterious gift-giver. They put forth explanations to answer, and help understand how things work in the North Pole and with Santa Claus. You now have the answers in your hand. Enigma solved.

April Claus has grown to love her new North Pole home almost as much as she loves her husband, Nick—Santa himself. But even in Christmastown, the holidays can be murder . . . April Claus is getting an early gift for her second Christmas in Santaland. Her dear friend, Claire, is visiting from Oregon, and April hopes to show off her adoptive country at its cozy, glittering best. But when the annual ice sculpture contest is derailed by a kamikaze drone-deer, it’s just the first in a series of un-festive events . . . Drone-deer, created by inventor elf Blinky Brightlow, are none too popular with the genuine, flesh-and-hoof kind, who are currently on strike. With no reindeer games to keep them in shape, Nick worries they may get too chunky to pull his sleigh come Christmas. Now Blinky is missing, his girlfriend, Juniper, is under suspicion, and between rogue reindeer and conniving elves, all of Santaland seems to have gone sugarplum-crazy. Add a dash of murder to the mix, and suddenly April is battling not just to clear Juniper’s name, but to save herself from being put on ice—permanently . . . Praise for Mrs. Claus and the Halloween Homicide “Fans of offbeat, humorous cozies will clamor for more.” —Publishers Weekly “Multiple plot twists, quirky, characters, plenty of humor, and the lovingly described, magical Santaland distinguish this entertaining cozy.” —Booklist

Book excerpt: If you’re a youth in 1941 living in San Francisco and a graduate of Stanford University, fluent in speech communications, especially Japanese, your talents were needed by Army intelligence immediately. If the United States went to war against Japan, intelligence realized they had very few personnel that could speak the language or understand the culture, Including Japanese Americans. Their search of universities throughout the United States turned up very sparse results. They started a school to teach the Japanese language and, if possible, the culture of the isolated country to future code breakers. The Presidio, a military post in San Francisco, was chosen to go forward immediately with the task. The next priority was to compose a cryptology dictionary of the language, similar to what Churchill had done at Bletchley Park. It was the central site for British code breakers, intercepting and decoding the German transmission. The youth of American stepped up to the challenge, including an extraordinarily talented young lady, Sue Lee Ono. She was fluent in Japanese, German, Spanish, French and understood several Chinese dialects. Sue Lee grew up in San Francisco in Japantown under the tutelage of her dear Uncle Yoshi. He taught her the knowledge of the Japanese culture and a deep understanding of the history and artifacts. Uncle Yoshi was a collector and a known authority of Asian art. Sue Lee settles into the routine at the Presidio, helping to set up a school for Japanese Americans eager to do their part for their country against the ever-present prejudice. With the bombing of Pearl Harbor, all hell breaks loose! Sue Lee is caught in a murderous past after the death of her beloved Uncle Yoshi along with the ever-changing World War!
