Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From my home in San Juan, a lovely sector of central Tibas, situated just north of San Jose, Costa Rica, while the candle flickers I commence the writing of these varied glimpses. Warning! What you are about to read are personal memoirs! They are much to do about self. They amount to a large group of random thoughts, sporadic observations. I always feel I am somehow supposed to write my thoughts down what a big ego I must have because (I like to think that) if you put them all together, they form a loose-knit way of seeing the world. They are a part of my worldview. Everyone has one of these whats your view of the world look like? I am going to be a world philosopher when I grow up, you see. That is what my intention is, since I have always been preoccupied with how to see things, how to process things. How odd is life anyway. Thats why my interest in philosophy to figure out the oddness of life. Normally, I think philosophy can be pretty dry and boring. But, for me, its terribly exciting. In this book, what you are about to delve into will resemble the form of an ongoing story. It will consist of a sequence of six weeks of shadows and lights (i.e. days and nights). After that time, wherever I am at with it, I will stop, and simply and abruptly start to write another book about something else I know not what. Here though, I will (I suspect) be sharing with you a series of ideas, dreams, fears, logical thoughts, illogical thoughts, wonderings, wanderings and general psychobabble. I say that because I intend to impart thoughts and ideas about whatever might be in my ongoing existence in being. This could be anything, I assure youas of course it could be for anyone. Exactly what will appear in the pages that represent the next six weeks of my life, I do not have any idea that, for me, is going to be much of the fun of writing it!

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: A walk of one million stepsfive-hundred miles from France to Santiago, Spainwalking the way of St. James My journey on the Camino de Santiago was a test that I created for myself because I needed to say thank you for all of my many blessings and to do so in a way that took me well outside my comfort zone. My journey on the Camino de Santiago provided lots of laughs and smiles as well as tears and pain. Along the way I had the good fortune to meet many very interesting people from all over the world. Walking for thirty-four days through rain, snow, heat, and cold tested my commitment to continue each day. Being alone in the middle of nowhere also provided me with a solitude that very few people get to experience. Each day of my journey had its own finish line, and each finish line was very different from the day before, and in large part that was a real motivatorget to the finish line so I could relax and celebrate that days victory. This journey tested me in ways that I didnt anticipate. I trained for several months to prepare myself for this journey, but I was not prepared for everything I encountered on my walk. Sometimes life gives you unexpected opportunities to give, to learn, and to grow. This book describes what happens when you push yourself beyond your comfort zone and embrace whatever life brings you with open eyes and an open heart.

Book excerpt: A collection of writings by participants in the Black Mesa Archaeological Project offers a synthesis of Kayenta-area archaeology, examining the ancestral Puebloan and Navajo occupation of the Four Corners region, and analysing faunal, lithic, ceramic, chronometric, and human osteological data, to construct an account of the prehistory and ethnohistory of northern Arizona that demonstrates how organizational variation and other aspects of culture change are largely a response to a changing natural environment.

It includes a review and synthesis of available published and unpublished historical, ethnohistorical, and ethnographic literature about the human occupation of the area now contained within the VCNP. Documents include historical maps, texts, letters, diaries, business records, photographs, land and mineral patents, and court testimony.‍?‍?This study presents a cultural-historical framework of VCNP land use that will be useful to land managers and researchers in assessing the historical ecology of the property. This book provides information pertinent to the developments in urban archeology. Organized into nine chapters, this volume begins with an overview of cultural resource management developed to assess the significance of, and to manage the cultural resources on public lands. This text then explores the basic aspects of natural and human-caused changes on the portion of the archaeological resource base consisting of archaeological sites. Other chapters consider the practice of urban archeology in the United States, with emphasis on the relationships between human behavior and material culture in an urban setting. This book discusses as well the applications of computer graphics in archeology. The final chapter deals with the types of skeletal and population changes that accompany malnutrition. This book is a valuable resource for anthropologist, archaeologists, urban planners, and graduate students.
