The salvation of the spirit is based on the finished work of our Saviour Jesus Christ at Calvary - the spirit is saved simply by believing on the Lord Jesus Christ. While the spirit is saved by faith in Christ, the soul is being saved based upon the faithfulness of the believer. The salvation of the soul is dependent on the life that we live after our spirit is saved. If we allow the Holy Spirit to control our life we can realize the salvation of our soul, which will ultimately be determined at the Judgment Seat of Christ. When Jesus returns, He will review all of our lives to determine whether we have been faithful and obedient doers of His Word. Jacob compared Judah to a lion and a lion's whelp and in the Revelation we read that one of the elders said to John, "The Lion of the tribe of Judah, the Root of David, has prevailed to open the book, and to loosen the seven seals thereof."
