Book excerpt: Can a woman who has spent her life hiding her feelings between the pages of a notebook, gain the courage to bare them to the one she’s meant to be with? Reign Price has always had a good head on her shoulders. At thirty-two, she’s an editing supervisor, in the process of purchasing a home, and when she’s not journaling her deepest thoughts into one of her notebooks, she’s making time for her loved ones. Reign seems to have it all together—on the outside. That's because Reign’s ability to suppress her feelings is unmatched. Putting on a brave face while uttering the words “I’m fine” is a skill she has mastered. While her relationship of six years is on the verge of crumbling, Reign tries her best to remain stoic. However, after a devastating betrayal, she’s forced to face her emotions head on. Through it all, she rekindles a once-close friendship with Chase Williams—her best friend’s older brother. Leaving a dead-end relationship of his own, Chase realizes that being close to Reign again is what he wants. As old feelings resurface, and new desires reach fever pitch, Reign finds herself faced with a dilemma: be honest about how she truly feels, or risk losing the best thing that has ever happened to her.

Book excerpt: This book explores the portrayal of the rise, reign, and demise of Abimelech in Judges 9 and asks about whose interests this portrayal may have served. The negative depiction of Abimelech's kingship in this chapter, coupled with Gideon's rejection of kingship in Judges 8:22-23, has led interpreters to view the passage as anti-monarchic. This perspective clashes with the pro-monarchic stance of Judges 17-21. However, while the portrayal of Abimelech's kingship is negative, it may yet have served as a legitimation strategy for the monarchy. In support, this study examines Judges 9 through three methodological lenses: a narrative analysis, a rhetorical analysis and a social scientific analysis. In addition, anthropological data on early and developing states shows that such states attempt to prevent fissioning (the tendency inherent within political systems to break up and form other similar units) by subverting local leaders, groups, and institutions, and so legitimate the centralization of power. When read in this light, Judges 9 supports monarchic interests by seeking to subvert localized rule and alliances in favor of a centralized polity.

Book excerpt: On 10 May 1994, Nelson Mandela became South Africa's first black president, uttering the words 'let freedom reign' as part of his famous inaugural address. More than 100,000 people turned up to hear him speak. Mandela's great skill as an orator has enabled him to use the power of words as an important weapon in his fight against discrimination and injustice in the world. This collection, which marks the 20th anniversary of Mandela's release from prison in February 1990, explores how his electrifying speeches and impressive rhetoric helped bring about social and political change in South Africa, through, among other things, the dismantling of the apartheid system. Throughout his lifetime, Mandela has spoken about and written on such issues as global warming, HIV/AIDS, human rights, racism and discrimination and women's rights, and some of these are showcased in "Let Freedom Reign". In this book, author Henry Russell analyses the linguistic features, content and context of Mandela's speeches, revealing the oratory skill behind this great man's most inspiring words.

A love triangle involving the two forces Rance to teach Stone that might makes right. 1960s Long Island high school sweethearts Lyle Mack and Stacy Sands are besieged with dysfunctional families. Graduation and the move to college leads to a new romance for football stud Lyle. A disconsolate Stacy seeks revenge in the arms of a conniving Stone Walcott. The four are subsequently intertwined in a kaleidoscope of sex, war, vengeance, and murder. Right as Reign reinforces the concept that power and prestige permeate and dominate every aspect of society as it explores the complex relationships among the level-headed but brutal Tugger, scheming, twisted Walcott, imposing but mild-mannered Mack, and beautiful but vengeful Sands. The one who reigns is always right. It's that simple. It's right as rain.

Book excerpt: It's Time for a Revolution In the Garden, woman was taken out of man to stand by his side and co-reign with him. But Satan's schemes have robbed women of their rightful identity, disempowering and defacing them. The world aches for God's original partnership to be brought into balance once more--and it can be. Join Kris Vallotton for an extraordinary journey of eye-opening insight, including • God's true plan and purpose for women • Jesus' radical teachings and care for women • men's important role in restoring women • the true meaning of difficult Bible passages about women • examples of women in leadership as God intended God fashioned women to reign alongside men. Jesus set women free to be beautiful and powerful. It's time for us, as daughters and sons of the King, to rule together in glory again. Will you join the revolution? "We have failed to realize that Jesus founded the women's liberation movement more than two thousand years ago. Isn't it high time His Church led the revolution?"--Kris Vallotton "Off the charts. Worthy to be read and studied by all. You won't be able to put it down."--Patricia King, founder, XP Ministries "Read, weigh and embrace the spirit, truth and heartbeat of this book. This biblical approach rightly addresses unright arguments of strained interpretations. Such balance and beauty make sense and offer wisdom. I say, 'Amen!'"--Pastor Jack Hayford, chancellor, The King's University, Dallas/Los Angeles "This profound work is a must-read for men and women alike; it has the potential to instill courage in the hearts of men and give women permission to dream again."--Bill Johnson, senior leader, Bethel Church, Redding, California; author, The Essential Guide to Healing and When Heaven Invades Earth "Finally, a biblical perspective that encourages women to remain themselves and still take their God-given places of leadership."--Stacey Campbell, author, Praying the Bible; co-founding pastor, New Life Church, Kelowna, British Columbia "This compelling work will elevate your awareness, challenge some presuppositions and invite you to grow in the grace of the Lord Jesus."--Dr. Mark J. Chironna, Church On The Living Edge, Mark Chironna Ministries, Orlando, Florida "This must-read will empower you to regain your identity that Satan stole and live the life God created you to live."--Cynthia Brazelton, pastor, Victory Christian Ministries International "I deeply enjoyed diving into the Bible with Kris as my guide to find out what God really says about men and women. It has enhanced my understanding of who I am as a woman and inspires me to instill that in the young women around me. This book is about truth and therefore would be great written by anyone. However, I realized that the fact that it was written by a man, and it is a man calling me into my divine design, brought a deeper level of healing than I'd anticipated and sent me on a journey digging deeper into God's heart. I recommend it for all!" --Revival Magazine "Fashioned to Reign considers the everlasting deception Christians face regarding women's role and purpose: a deception fostered by evil and which is not of God's plan. The disempowerment of women was the devil's idea - and God's true plan for women is very different. Woman was, in fact, designed to stand by man's side and reign with him, not under him - and Fashioned to Reign covers God's ultimate intention for women. Packed with scripture and information throughout, Fashioned to Reign is a powerful analysis perfect for any Christian collection." --Midwest Book Review

Book excerpt: This 1991 book was the first ever English rendition of the classic statement of divine right absolutism, published in 1707. Jacques-Benigne Bossuet argues in the Politics that a general society of the entire human race, governed by Christian charity, has given way (after the Fall) to the necessity of politcs, law, and absolute hereditary monarchy. That monarchy - seen as natural, universal and divinely ordained (beginning with David and Solomon) is defended in the first half of the book. The last part, added soon before Bossuet's death, goes on to take up the rights of the Church, the distinction between absolutism and arbitrariness, and causes of just war. Patrick Riley has provided full supporting materials including a chronology, guide to further reading, and a lucid introduction placing Bossuet in his historical and intellectual context.

Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The hand of the diligent shall bear rule: but the slothful shall be under tribute. (Proverbs 12:24 KJV) This scripture is the foundation for this book. The Word tells us to meditate on God's Word and we can make our way prosperous. I like the way the Message Bible of Joshua 1:8-9 reads; "Don't get off track, either left or right, so as to make sure you get to where you're going. And don't for a minute let this Book of The Revelation be out of mind. Ponder and meditate on it day and night, making sure you practice everything written in it. Then you'll get where you're going; then you'll succeed. Haven't I commanded you? Strength! Courage! Don't be timid; don't get discouraged. GOD, your God, is with you every step you take." When I meditated on Proverbs 12:24, I found seven life changing principles that I learned and continue to incorporate in my life that allow me to reign in areas that I would not in my wildest dreams truly believe that I could! God has given us everything we need to succeed, everything we need to reign in life. Just like a father gives his child his blessing, our Father, God has given us "The Blessing" to reign in life. It is up to us to take that blessing, that empowerment, that anointing and utilize it in every arena of our lives. We are going to learn how to take the Word of God and incorporate it in our lives and reap the benefits of meditating and doing the Word, because the bible also tells us that we need to hear as well as do the Word to receive the promises of the Word. Don't fool yourself into thinking that you are a listener when you are anything but, letting the Word go in one ear and out the other. Act on what you hear! Those who hear and don't act are like those who glance in the mirror, walk away and two minutes later have no idea who they are, what they look like. (James 1:22-24 MSG) This is not going to be us! Once we hear the Word on how to reign in life, we will act upon it with force, eagerness, persistence and diligence and see God manifest Himself in our lives like never before! So we will begin by breaking down our foundation scripture which is Proverbs 12:24a the hand of the diligent shall bear rule. We will dissect it into small enough pieces that we can digest it and nourish our spirits and our souls and began to see our lives change, because we utilized the principles that we will be discussing in this book. Now let's look at some definitions: The word Hand in the Hebrew means power, direction, work, ministry, service and state. Diligent in Hebrew means active, incisive, determination and eager. Bear Rule in Hebrew means to rule, reign, have power, governor and that everything is subject to you. Now let's incorporate our definitions of these words into our scripture and it would read: The power, direction, work, ministry, service, state of the active, incisive, determined and eager shall rule, reign, have power, be governor and everything is subject to them! Now, I took it a step further and looked up the Hebrew definition of these words in the American Heritage Dictionary and I came up with an even more detailed description of this particular scripture. I will call this Shelita's amplified version of Proverbs 12:24a: The power, the direction, the work, the ministry, the service and the state of the active and those who have the ability or quality to cut or separate the superficial part of anything, able to make a decision of a question in the mind, have firm resolution; settled purpose, absolute direction to a certain end and are excited by ardent desire in the pursuit of any object will rule, reign, have control, have power, be director, administrator, chief, head and have everything subject to them! Amen! Now that's what I'm talking about! This is what I want for my life and I know you do as well because you are reading this book, so let's get started.
