After conducting a thorough study on the topic and taking insights from the interviews with experts, this paper aims to fill in this gap and make a contribution to the research topic by taking a cultural approach, in which determinants of corruption in are examined. This paper will provide new findings how the cultural aspects interrelate with the two concepts, i.e. economic and institutional. The research will close the gap between the economic and institutional approaches that currently exist in the academic world. The relevance of this consideration is justified because the costs associated with corruption do not affect only the economic outcomes. Its impact on society is much wider, what makes it relevant to research the cultural aspect of corruption and, therefore, close this existing gap. Corruption has become one of the forefront managerial issues both at the national and international levels. The concept of corruption is complex and multilateral and it varies across countries. Its different types of expressiveness and intensity can be felt all over the world and have the potential to cause severe complications for a country’s economy and environmental sustainability.

Book excerpt: The book explores theoretical, methodological, and empirical underpinnings of administrative culture as well as prospects and challenges associated with it in the context of and across developing and transitional countries. Referring to dominant norms and values in public organizations administrative culture is about the attitudes and perceptions of public officials. In many countries civil servants are criticised for being corrupt, incompetent, unreliable and self-centred.Their attitudes, norms and values and the way they act are in constant conflict with rule of law. Recently the virtues of the Weberian model of bureaucracy have been reclaimed as an alternative to New Public Management (NPM): i.e. as a model which emphasizes impartiality, rule-following, expertise, and hierarchy rather than manipulation of incentive structures and market competition. In particular it has been argued that a system of meritocratic recruitment and predictable, long-term careers increases the professional competence of the bureaucrats and fosters a culture of professionalism among them. Still it is unclear how and under what conditions such a model can be adopted.Among main hindrances seems to be established power structures and the existing political and societal culture which undermine the effective implementation of the Weberian model. Book excerpt: This paper investigates the effects of national culture on firm risk-taking, using a comprehensive dataset covering 50,000 firms in 400 industries in 51 countries. Risk-taking is found to be higher for domestic firms in countries with low uncertainty aversion, low tolerance for hierarchical relationships, and high individualism. Domestic firms in such countries tend to take substantially more risk in industries which are more informationally opaque (e.g. finance, mining, IT). Risk-taking by foreign firms is best explained by the cultural norms of their country of origin. These cultural norms do not proxy for legal constraints, insurance safety nets, or economic development.
