Book Synopsis The Effects of Anaerobic Swim Ergometer Training on Sprint Performance in Adolescent Swimmers by : Adam J.A. Pinos
Download or read book The Effects of Anaerobic Swim Ergometer Training on Sprint Performance in Adolescent Swimmers written by Adam J.A. Pinos and published by . This book was released on 2020 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The effects of anaerobic training using a swim ergometer on sprint swimming performance have not been investigated in competitive adolescent swimmers. The purpose of this study was to compare 4-weeks of sprint interval training (SIT) with a similar ergometer training intervention on associated anaerobic performances. Fourteen competitive adolescent swimmers performed two pre and post intervention tests: 1) a 6 & 30 second maximal swim ergometer test, and 2) a maximal anaerobic lactate test (MANLT), (4 x 50 m short-course maximal swims with 10 second rest intervals). The results of this study demonstrated there was a significant improvement in 1) speed of the 4th 50m sprint, 2) mean power in 6 & 30-second maximal ergometer tests, and 3) 50m freestyle performance for both intervention groups after 4 weeks of SIT training respectively. As such, sprint ability may be improved through multiple modalities (pool and dryland) to elicit a positive training response.

Book Synopsis World Book of Swimming by : Ludovic Seifert
Download or read book World Book of Swimming written by Ludovic Seifert and published by Nova Novinka. This book was released on 2011 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Before 1970, scientific research in swimming was poor and anecdotal, and the improvements of performance were linked firstly to the swimmer's experience and, secondly, as a result of permanent research for speed. Before and after the Second World War, scientific studies were conducted by pioneers and marked the beginning of research in stroke mechanics and swimming physiology exercise. This book reviews research on the body of knowledge available for the improvement of sports coaching and training practice in swimming, which seems to be relevant, numerous, and diversified enough to help swimming coaches bridge the gap between theory and practice.

Book excerpt: The long awaited new edition of Swimming updates the highly successful first edition edited by Costill, Maglishco and Richardson which was published in the early 1990s. The Second Edition contains less material on how to swim and more on the physics of swimming. It contains information on the latest methods of analyzing swim performances. It presents current sports science knowledge specifically relevant to coaching swimmers at club, county or national level. Covering characteristics of swimming including important concepts in propulsion, functional anatomy, physiology, biochemistry, biomechanics and psychology. The Handbooks of Sports Medicine and Science present basic clinical and scientific information in a clear style and format as related to specific sports events drawn from the Olympic Summer and Winter Games. Each Handbook is written by a small team of authorities co-ordinated by an editor who has international respect and visibility in the particular sport activity. Their charge is to present material for medical doctors who work with athletes, team coaches who have academic preparation in basic science, physical therapists and other allied health personnel, and knowledgeable athletes. Each volume represents up-to-date information on the basic biology of the sport, conditioning techniques, nutrition, and the medical aspects of injury prevention, treatment, and rehabilitation.
