This book was released on 2015-06-24 with total page 341 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Relations of the Christian Churches to One Another, and Problems Growing Out of Them, Especially in Canada There is nothing left to be desired in the way of religious principles or stimulus to the highest intellectual culture either, when Jesus Christ has been fully heard from. His own pronouncement on the matter was that all that came before Him "were thieves and robbers," referring, doubtless, not to the prophets and teachers of Israel, but to those outside the covenanted people, who pretended to lead men to God. All Christians are agreed on this point. They receive His utterances with reverence. Nothing that He taught is to be rejected. His followers differ in the interpretation they put on His sayings, but they are absolutely at one in regarding His teaching as unchallengeable. It is also assumed that the several sections into which Christendom is divided to-day came into being as the result of earnest and honest convictions, derived from a sincere study of the Word of God. The position is not taken that whatever is is best; but whatever is, as the result of men's eager search after truth, is not a thing to be ignored or denounced. We may think those wrong who differ from us, and try to convince them that they are wrong; but they are to be the final judges. So long as the several Christian communities hold firmly by the principles which distinguish them, not only is it not possible that they should be merged into one organization, but it would be utterly immoral in them, and unfaithful to truth, to surrender their convictions. The cry in favour of doing so is in effect a setting of one's self against the influences and movements out of which the several denominations originated, that is, against historical facts which cannot be undone. Book Synopsis Love One Another by : Gerald Lawson Sittser
Download or read book Love One Another written by Gerald Lawson Sittser and published by IVP. This book was released on 2008-09-19 with total page 192 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jesus commanded his disciples to love one another. It's a simple command to understand, but very difficult to obey. And in the local church, it sometimes seems impossible. Many of us belong to highly diverse Christian communities, where we encounter people radically different from ourselves. At the same time, controversies and difficulties often threaten to tear us apart. So how can we achieve unity within the body of Christ? Gerald Sittser examines the 'one another' statements from the New Testament, distilling much-needed biblical wisdom to help us love one another. Drawing on his own pastoral experience of the best and worst of church life, he shows us what the love Jesus commanded actually requires of us, and how to live it out in struggle and servanthood, compromise and sacrifice. This enjoyable book by a best-selling author will guide us in putting one of the most important biblical principles into practice, for the good of our local churches.

Book Synopsis The Waning Authority of Christ in the Churches by : A Tozer
Download or read book The Waning Authority of Christ in the Churches written by A Tozer and published by Createspace Independent Publishing Platform. This book was released on 2015-11-13 with total page 26 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book has been described by James L. Snyder as Tozer's valedictory. It was his last message ever given to God's people. Written shortly before his death in 1963, it was published two days after his death. It is a challenging message to all who want to walk with Christ. "HERE IS THE BURDEN of my heart; and while I claim for myself no special inspiration I yet feel that this is also the burden of the Spirit. If I know my own heart it is love alone that moves me to write this. What I write here is not the sour ferment of a mind agitated by contentions with my fellow Christians. There have been no such contentions. I have not been abused, mistreated or attacked by anyone. Nor have these observations grown out of any unpleasant experiences that I have had in my association with others. My relations with my own church as well as with Christians of other denominations have been friendly, courteous and pleasant. My grief is simply the result of a condition which I believe to be almost universally prevalent among the churches."

Book Synopsis So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore by : Wayne Jacobsen
Download or read book So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anymore written by Wayne Jacobsen and published by Windblown Media. This book was released on 2008-09-02 with total page 154 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Jake Colsen, an overworked and disillusioned pastor, happens into a stranger who bears an uncanny resemblance (in manner) to the apostle John. A number of encounters with John as well as a family crisis lead Jake to a new understanding of what his life should be like: one filled with faith bolstered by a steady, close relationship with the God of the universe. Facing his own disappointment with Christianity, Jake must forsake the habits that have made his faith rote and rediscover the love that captured his heart when he first believed. Compelling and intensely personal, So You Don't Want to Go to Church Anything relates a man's rebirth from performance-based Christianity to a loving friendship with Christ that affects all he does, thinks, and says. As John tells Jake, "There is nothing the Father desires for you more than that you fall squarely in the lap of his love and never move from that place for the rest of your life."
Book Synopsis Your God is Too Glorious by : Chad Bird
Download or read book Your God is Too Glorious written by Chad Bird and published by New Reformation Publications. This book was released on 2023-11-14 with total page 193 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Most of us are regular people who have good days and bad days. Our lives are radically ordinary and unexciting. That means they're the kind of lives God gets excited about. While the world worships beauty and power and wealth, God hides his glory in the simple, the mundane, the foolish, working in unawesome people, things, and places. In our day of celebrity worship and online posturing, this is a refreshing, even transformative way of understanding God and our place in his creation. It urges us to treasure a life of simplicity, to love those whom the world passes by, to work for God's glory rather than our own. And it demonstrates that God has always been the Lord of the cross--a Savior who hides his grace in unattractive, inglorious places.Your God Is Too Glorious reminds readers that while a quiet life may look unimpressive to the world, it's the regular, everyday people that God tends to use to do his most important work.
Book Synopsis Churches Partnering Together by : Chris Bruno
Download or read book Churches Partnering Together written by Chris Bruno and published by Crossway. This book was released on 2014-08-31 with total page 178 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: How to Work Together for the Sake of the Gospel Most churches in the U. S. have less than 75 members. Many of these congregations barely have enough money to pay their pastor’s salary, much less launch a movement or host a conference. How can they hope to make an impact beyond their own walls? In Churches Partnering Together, Chris Bruno and Matt Dirks show how all churches—big andsmall—can do more together than they can do apart. Looking to the New Testament for guidance, this practical book will help pastors, church leaders, and laypeople alike think creatively about gospel-driven church partnerships in their own communities and around the world.
