Download or read book The Transformation of Intergovernmental Satellite Organisations written by Patricia McCormick and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Transformation of Intergovernmental Satellite Organisations: Policy and Legal Perspectives offers a multifaceted analysis of the complex policy and legal issues associated with the privatisation or restructuring of the world’s preeminent intergovernmental satellite organisations, INTELSAT, INMARSAT and EUTELSAT. Maury Mechanick, Christian Roisse, and David Sagar, each of whom were directly involved in these undertakings, provide a unique perspective on the critical issues involved, while Frans von der Dunk and Patricia McCormick offer a broader contextual assessment of their significance. The contributors’ insights regarding the restructuring of these satellite organisations and the intergovernmental organisations which oversee public services represent valuable reflections on those developments, as well as on changes occurring following privatisation regarding those entities’ ownership profiles and service provisions.

Book Synopsis Satellite Broadcasting by : Ralph Negrine
Download or read book Satellite Broadcasting written by Ralph Negrine and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-06-19 with total page 289 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Originally published in 1988, this book provides a thorough examination of the possibilities and key issues in satellite technology which at the time already seemed likely to change the face of broadcasting both within nations and internationally. It begins with a guide to the technical development of different systems of satellites and signal reception and an outline of the international, political and regulatory issues involved. It then examines the situation in various industrialised countries by analysing launching plans, funding, the interaction between satellite, cable and VCRs and the effect on existing broadcasting systems. Concerned throughout with a wide range of cultural considerations and the potential impacts of the new media, this is a useful reflection on the time.

Download or read book International Space Law and The United Nations written by Nandasiri Jasentuliyana and published by BRILL. This book was released on 2023-08-07 with total page 462 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: International Space Law and the United Nations is a comprehensive collection of writings by the author on this latest branch of international law. The book covers a number of subjects highlighted by discussions of the United Nations Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and its Legal Subcommittee. The book also takes into account the influences that international organizations have had on the development of space law and includes several perspectives of developing countries on this subject. This publication is an outstanding educational and reference tool, as the author tackles this complex subject in an organized and rational manner. The author, a key participant at the United Nations in the development of international law relating to activities in space, traces the history of that development, giving clear insight into the workings of the Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space, and establishes space law as a distinct legal discipline. Subsequent chapters are devoted to the various issues that have given rise to the growth of this discipline, including arms control; economic and social development; specific provisions contained in the outer space treaties and how they relate to practical matters, such as dispute resolution; private sector growth and commercialization in space activities; international cooperative programmes, particularly those developed under the auspices of the United Nations, and recent developments and future issues facing the space-faring community. The book is an excellent source for further research in the field of space law. It is a must for students and practitioners and those interested in international organizations.

This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several decades ago, when satellites emerged as vehicles for commercial international telecommunications, the technology was under development and, thus, both risky and expensive. At that time, worldwide organizations were considered the best means for providmg satellite-based services such as basic telephone service, to all nations. One objective of the United States, as stated in the Communications Satellite Act of 1962, was to contribute to world peace and understanding through the development of a worldwide satellite communications system established in conjunction and in cooperation with other countries. At the initiative of the United States, the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (iNm:LsAT) was begun in 1964 to provide mainly telephone and data services, and the International Maritime Satellite Organization (Inmarsat)' was formed in 1979 to provide maritime communications, including services related to safety and rescue at sea These treaty organizations faced little, if any, competition for many years after their establishment.
