Book Synopsis The Transformation of Intergovernmental Satellite Organisations by : Patricia McCormick
Download or read book The Transformation of Intergovernmental Satellite Organisations written by Patricia McCormick and published by Martinus Nijhoff Publishers. This book was released on 2013-10-10 with total page 313 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Transformation of Intergovernmental Satellite Organisations: Policy and Legal Perspectives offers a multifaceted analysis of the complex policy and legal issues associated with the privatisation or restructuring of the world’s preeminent intergovernmental satellite organisations, INTELSAT, INMARSAT and EUTELSAT. Maury Mechanick, Christian Roisse, and David Sagar, each of whom were directly involved in these undertakings, provide a unique perspective on the critical issues involved, while Frans von der Dunk and Patricia McCormick offer a broader contextual assessment of their significance. The contributors’ insights regarding the restructuring of these satellite organisations and the intergovernmental organisations which oversee public services represent valuable reflections on those developments, as well as on changes occurring following privatisation regarding those entities’ ownership profiles and service provisions.

This book was released on 1996 with total page 0 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Several decades ago, when satellites emerged as vehicles for commercial international telecommunications, the technology was under development and, thus, both risky and expensive. At that time, worldwide organizations were considered the best means for providmg satellite-based services such as basic telephone service, to all nations. One objective of the United States, as stated in the Communications Satellite Act of 1962, was to contribute to world peace and understanding through the development of a worldwide satellite communications system established in conjunction and in cooperation with other countries. At the initiative of the United States, the International Telecommunications Satellite Organization (iNm:LsAT) was begun in 1964 to provide mainly telephone and data services, and the International Maritime Satellite Organization (Inmarsat)' was formed in 1979 to provide maritime communications, including services related to safety and rescue at sea These treaty organizations faced little, if any, competition for many years after their establishment.
Book Synopsis Global Space Governance: An International Study by : Ram S. Jakhu
Download or read book Global Space Governance: An International Study written by Ram S. Jakhu and published by Springer. This book was released on 2017-09-12 with total page 784 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This book is based on the findings, conclusions and recommendations of the Global Space Governance study commissioned by the 2014 Montreal Declaration that called upon civil society, academics, governments, the private sector, and other stakeholders to undertake an international interdisciplinary study. The study took three years to complete. It examines the drivers of space regulations and standards, key regulatory problems, and especially addresses possible improvements in global space governance. The world's leading experts led the drafting of chapters, with input from academics and knowledgeable professionals in the public and private sectors, intergovernmental organizations, and nongovernmental organizations from all the regions of the world with over 80 total participants. This book and areas identified for priority action are to be presented to the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space and it is hoped will be considered directly or indirectly at the UNISPACE+50 event in Vienna, Austria, in 2018. The report, a collective work of all the contributors, includes objective analysis and frank statements expressed without pressure of political, national, and occupational concerns or interest. It is peer-reviewed and carefully edited to ensure its accuracy, preciseness, and readability. It is expected that the study and derivative recommendations will form the basis for deliberations and decisions at international conferences and meetings around the world on the theme of global space governance. This will hopefully include future discussion at the UN Committee on the Peaceful Uses of Outer Space.

Book Synopsis The International Telecommunications Regime: Domestic Preferences and Regime Change by : Juan Ratto-Nielsen
Download or read book The International Telecommunications Regime: Domestic Preferences and Regime Change written by Juan Ratto-Nielsen and published by Lulu.com. This book was released on 2009-12-26 with total page 242 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: This study examines the evolution of the international regime in telecommunications with the main objective of furthering our understanding of the process of regime transformation. The dominant theories of international relations ' realism and institutional liberalism specify how states with shared interests use institutions to realize joint gains and to minimize the possibility of defection. But these theories have little to say about when states will attempt to change the objectives that lead them to create the international institution in the first place. The main goal of this book is to investigate and test the assumption that domestic politics by themselves can explain the dynamics of regime creation, evolution and change as it happened within the International Telecommunications Union (ITU).
Download or read book World Politics written by Jeffrey Haynes and published by Routledge. This book was released on 2013-09-13 with total page 833 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: From the war on terror to the global financial crisis, traditional concepts of world politics are being challenged on a daily basis. In these uncertain times, the study of international relations and the forces that shape them have never been more important. Written specifically for students who are approaching this subject for the first time, World Politics is the most accessible, coherent and up-to-date account of the field available. It covers the historical backdrop to today’s political situations, the complex interactions of states and non-state actors, the role of political economy, human security in all its forms, and the ways in which culture, religion and identity influence events. World Politics takes a new approach that challenges traditional interpretations, and will equip students with the knowledge and the confidence needed to tackle the big issues.
