Download or read book Energy Conservation in Fruit Dehydrators Utilizing Recirculation of Exhaust Air and Heat Recovery Heat Exchangers. Final Report written by and published by . This book was released on 1977 with total page pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Dehydration of fruit in the United States is often done by means of a tunnel dehydrator utilizing large quantities of fossil fuel. Existing dehydrators have been designed to operate with maximum product through-put and with little regard for energy efficiency. Incorporating controlled recirculating air dampers and thermal energy recovery equipment on the exhaust air, calculations and preliminary tests show that the energy required in dehydration may be cut by up to 40%. During this work, one tunnel was modified and upgraded in a commercial 24-tunnel facility to demonstrate the potential savings. A primary element of this program, the heat recovery heat exchanger, operated below specifications. The manufacturer, Hughes Aircraft Company, has determined that the heat exchanger design was based on faulty data, and is constructing a second exchanger which can be installed and tested during a subsequent program.

Book Synopsis Energy Conservation Through Control by : Francis Shinskey
Download or read book Energy Conservation Through Control written by Francis Shinskey and published by Elsevier. This book was released on 2012-12-02 with total page 336 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Energy Conservation Through Control provides information pertinent to energy-conserving control systems, which is relevant to efficient plant operations. This book discusses the processes involving energy conversion and examines the laws of thermodynamics. Organized into four parts encompassing nine chapters, this book starts with an overview of the first law of thermodynamics, which emphasizes that energy is naturally conserved in any isolated system. This text then explores the various aspects of combustion, which includes air pollution control, controlling airflow, and controlling fuel flow. Other chapters describe the common refrigeration systems and examine the factors affecting their performance. This book discusses as well the importance of refrigeration systems in industrial processing and to air-condition buildings. The final chapter deals with the general features and control problems in energy conservation in heating, ventilating, and air-conditioning (HVAC) system. Plant designers, control engineers, power plant operators, and industrial managers will find this book extremely useful.
