The Irish Heart Series Continuing Trilogy: The Irish Castle: Keeping Elizabeth (Book 4) The Irish Secret: Wild Fire (Book 5) The Irish Wedding: A Novel Romance (Book 6) Juliet Gauvin’s books are feel-good romantic women’s fiction. They include international travel, holidays, contemporary women, and epic love. INTERVIEW WITH THE AUTHOR Q: How did you come up with The Irish Cottage? Juliet: Well the story came together in pieces. I love Ireland, I've always been attracted to the country, the people, the music, the dancing. I've spent time traveling the country so I knew I wanted to set the book there. And then the character of Elizabeth was based on a lot of the experiences I had when I was in law in San Francisco. When I was immersed in that world--it was a very dark time, and I really did lose my way--like Elizabeth. I even let long-time relationships die because I was in such a dark place, it was difficult to see anything past my own nose. So yeah, I knew I wanted my heroine to be a "recovering attorney" and I knew that I wanted her to have this great love affair in Ireland that would open her up to the truly great possibilities life has to offer. Q: And what about Connor Bannon? Is he based on anyone? Juliet: Ummm...he might be an amalgamation of several people, but I think I'll refrain from commenting further--have to keep some of it to myself, don't I? Q: Why did you elect to write romantic women's fiction as opposed to traditional contemporary romance? Juliet: I knew I wanted to write in the romantic women's fiction space because writing a story where the heroine's evolution is paramount--not just her relationship with Connor--is what really gets me, drives me--I love those types of stories. I like writing herstory--women's lives and journeys are so complex--I wanted to write a series that included a great love story, but didn't sacrifice the heroine's journey in any way. It's about Elizabeth finding her way--we all need to find our way. Sometimes people help with that, but ultimately each of us has to find our own path...and we all need love too. Q: Why London and then Paris? Juliet: I lived in London for a time--I love it so much. It's one of the best cities on the planet, really. When I closed my eyes and thought about where Elizabeth's journey would take her I knew London would be next. And Paris--I lived in Lyon for a time as well and I've spent a lot of time in Paris so it seemed only natural for the final book to be set there. I also set certain things in motion in The Irish Cottage that make it impossible to end anywhere else--I knew I wanted to end it in France. Plus, Elizabeth has a major sweet tooth, like me, and Paris has the most amazing dessert masters in the world. I spent many hours pouring over the websites of my favorites and discovering some new ones. Those were the hardest and best research nights--I'm nocturnal, I write at night--and pouring over the websites of my favorite masters was heaven and hell. I wanted to get on a plane already. My sugar intake definitely went up while I was writing The Paris Apartment--and my waistline with it.

Book excerpt: When I learned my husband married me to keep his trust fund, I served him divorce papers. Doing the deed on top of those papers probably wasn’t a good idea. From Marie Johnston comes a second chance romance. I was content being the girl from the trailer park who grew up to be a quiet librarian. My idea of excitement was when King Oil hosted an open house and invited my workplace. Aiden King would be there, and he’d probably look better than he did when we were kids. A girl could dream—his looks and money made sure of it. I didn’t expect him to remember me, much less ask me out. And keep dating me. He proposed and we married. I tried to be happy but he was distant and always gone for work. Then I learned the millions of reasons why he married me. In order to keep his trust fund, he needed a wife. I was nothing but an easy target. So I served him divorce papers. Only he won’t sign them, and I can’t figure out why. He cares more about his family’s company than me. I can’t believe I’m the woman he’d have chosen if he wasn’t rushed. But one night, he breaks and reveals why he’s not signing those papers, and his explanation is fast…and hot…and explosive. And right on top of those papers. I want to believe a simple girl like me could land a wealthy, handsome guy like him, but he fooled me once already. And I can’t go back to a cold husband who won’t make me a priority. King's Queen is a standalone novel in the Oil Kings series. Then Taylor's dad gets some devastating news, and her parents decide that the family will spend on last summer together at their old lake house in the Pcocono Mountains. Crammed into a place much smaller than they are used to, they begin to get to know each other again, but as the summer progresses they're more aware than ever that they're battling a ticking clock. And as Taylor tries to deal with the drama at home, she is faced with the fact that the friends she thought she'd left behind haven't actually gone anywhere. Her former summer best friend is still living across the lake and still as mad with Taylor as she was five years ago, and her first boyfriend has moved in next door… but he's much cuter at seventeen than he was at twelve. Can one summer be enough time to get a second chance - with family, friends, and love?

Book excerpt: A woman desperate to turn a new page heads to the Scottish coast and finds herself locked in a battle of wills with an infuriatingly aloof bookseller in this utterly heartwarming debut, perfect for readers of Evvie Drake Starts Over. “Humor and charm abound. . . . [This] love story hits the spot.”—Publishers Weekly Thea Mottram is having a bad month. She’s been let go from her office job with no notice—and to make matters even worse, her husband of nearly twenty years has decided to leave her for one of her friends. Bewildered and completely lost, Thea doesn’t know what to do. But when she learns that a distant great uncle in Scotland has passed away, leaving her his home and a hefty antique book collection, she decides to leave Sussex for a few weeks. Escaping to a small coastal town where no one knows her seems to be exactly what she needs. Almost instantly, Thea becomes enamored with the quaint cottage, comforted by its cozy rooms and lovely but neglected garden. The locals in nearby Baldochrie are just as warm, quirky, and inviting. The only person she can’t seem to win over is bookshop owner Edward Maltravers, to whom she hopes to sell her uncle’s book collection. His gruff attitude—fueled by an infamous, long-standing feud with his brother, a local lord—tests Thea’s patience. But bickering with Edward proves oddly refreshing and exciting, leading Thea to develop feelings she hasn’t experienced in a long time. As she follows a thrilling yet terrifying impulse to stay in Scotland indefinitely, Thea realizes that her new life may quickly become just as complicated as the one she was running from.

Book excerpt: Follow the incredible journey of one piece of paper—a copy of Psalm 23—as it travels around the world, linking lives and hearts with its simple but beautiful message. The Lord is my shepherd; I shall not want. He makes me lie down in green pastures… Shortly before a tragic car accident, Kate McConnell wrote down the powerful words of Psalm 23 on a piece of paper for her wayward son. Just before she loses consciousness, Kate wonders if she’s done enough with her life and prays,“Please, let my life count.” Unbeknownst to Kate, her handwritten copy of Psalm 23 soon begins a remarkable journey around the world. From a lonely dry cleaning employee to a soldier wounded in Iraq, to a young Kurdish girl fleeing her country, to a Kenyan runner in the Rome Invitational Marathon, this humble message forever changes the lives of twelve very different people. Eventually, Kate’s paper makes it back to its starting place, and she discovers the unexpected ways that God changes lives, even through the smallest gestures. With beautiful prose evocative of master storyteller Andy Andrews’s The Butterfly Effect, this “intriguing…[and] inspiring read” (RT Book Reviews) will touch your heart and remind you of the ways God works through us to reach beyond what we can imagine.

It touches on current events and puts forth many thought-provoking subjects. Scorpio was a terminally-ill, international terrorist whose soul had been removed from him at a very early age. As a final act before his death, Scorpio sought a high-profile murder that would get him remembered for decades. The killing of a U.S. president. Scorpio knew the assassination would finally earn him the respect of Osama Bin Laden, who had disrespected and belittled him. Everything in the execution of the murder plot was going as planned until Richard Thomas interfered. Richard Thomas was a laid-off electrical engineer from the small city of Erie, Pennsylvania. He had a deep disdain for religion or anything spiritual. During a trip to Israel, Richard, while looking for a non-religious antique, unknowingly purchased four powerful Biblical antiquities from an antique store. After a terror attack in Washington, D.C. that fatally wounded his niece, Richard blamed God for the terror attack. In response, God teaches Richard a lesson using Scorpio and the antiquities.

Book excerpt: Second Chances is an adult romance between Anne and Ted, who have both suffered great losses. They have ended up on Cape Cod, whose nooks and crannies of wildness are their refuge. They are drawn together as Anne searches for someone to care for an injured fox...Maggie, Ted's daughter, gives the story a mythic dimension with her hunger for a mother and her love for the fox. The obvious 'match' between Ted and Anne, both needing what the other has, is not so obvious in practice: as they draw together, the anxieties and dreads sparked by their past experiences increasingly get in their way. They are individuals who feel deeply, and their losses have made them acutely aware of the fragility of ordinary family happiness. Despite an ever-increasing involvement, their romance becomes explosive and would fail were it not for Maggie. At the critical turning point in the story the fox leaves Maggie despite all her hunger and desire but, miraculously, returns against all expectation, making everything else seem possible to them, too. They risk the return of other things, then-like love, and being a family.
