Book excerpt: Until now, information on fungal protoplasts has been scattered throughout various sources. With authoritative reviews of protoplast isolation and applications in fungal biology research, Fungal Protoplasts: Applications in Biochemistry and Genetics is the first volume devoted to a major area in experimental mycology-fungal protoplasts. Written by 18 pioneering experts, this unmatched, illustrated reference presents well-established knowledge of protoplast research as well as newer ideas and methods. The book encompasses advances in protoplast isolation techniques and methodology, uses of protoplasts in physiological, biochemical, and genetic studies, and developments in protoplast fusion that form the basis for transformation and gene cloning experiments, including applications in industrial biotechnology. This fact-filled book also features end-of-chapter bibliographies for further research.
Book Synopsis Methods in Plant Cell Biology by : David W. Galbraith
Download or read book Methods in Plant Cell Biology written by David W. Galbraith and published by Academic Press. This book was released on 1995 with total page 605 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Methods in Plant Cell Biology provides in two volumes a comprehensive collection of analytical methods essential for researchers and students in the plant sciences. Individual chapters, written by experts in the field, provide an introductory overview, followed by a step-by-step technical description of the methods. Key Features * Written by experts, many of whom have developed the individual methods described * Contains most, if not all, the methods needed for modern research in plant cell biology * Up-to-date and comprehensive * Full references * Allows quick access to relevant journal articles and to the sources of chemicals required for the procedures * Selective concentration on higher plant methods allows for particular emphasis on those problems specific to plants.

Book Synopsis Fungal Protoplast by : D Lalithakumari
Download or read book Fungal Protoplast written by D Lalithakumari and published by CRC Press. This book was released on 2019-04-24 with total page 197 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Better validation of indigenous domestic animal genetic resources is becoming more important with regard to the potential of livestock for poverty alleviation and income generation. To improve indigenous breeds for sustainable income and employment generation, the methods to be employed are the same as developed in systematic breeding programs, be it for cross-breeding or selective breeding within a specific breed. This book systematically introduces the reader to the breed improvement theory and illustrates the theory with practical examples and case studies. The book is addressed to animal science teachers, to undergraduate and postgraduate students as well as to decision makers in the state and central livestock departments.
Book Synopsis The Physiological Properties of Plant Protoplasts by : Paul-Emile Pilet
Download or read book The Physiological Properties of Plant Protoplasts written by Paul-Emile Pilet and published by Springer Science & Business Media. This book was released on 2012-12-06 with total page 296 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The idea for the p~esent book arose from a 3-day seminar which I organized in March 1984 for young research workers in plant physiology. Participants came from several universities of the French-speaking part of Switzerland and speakers from Basel, Mtinchen, Nottingham, Perpignan, Regensburg, Sheffield, Toulouse, Yale, ZUrich ... and Lausannne. The theme of the seminar was chosen from the range of research fields of our Institute. Meanwhile, feeling it was important to bear in mind that some of our hearers were not specialists in the chosen topic, I wished to pro vide a subject that would be of scientific, methodological and epistemologi cal interest. The critical analysis of the structural and functional characteristics of plant protoplasts exactly met these criteria. There exists ample material for discussion of the techniques of protoplast preparation, methods used in morphological, biological and biochemical studies, and for the comparison of protoplasts with the cells from which they are obtained.

Download or read book Safety of Genetically Engineered Foods written by National Research Council and published by National Academies Press. This book was released on 2004-07-08 with total page 254 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Assists policymakers in evaluating the appropriate scientific methods for detecting unintended changes in food and assessing the potential for adverse health effects from genetically modified products. In this book, the committee recommended that greater scrutiny should be given to foods containing new compounds or unusual amounts of naturally occurring substances, regardless of the method used to create them. The book offers a framework to guide federal agencies in selecting the route of safety assessment. It identifies and recommends several pre- and post-market approaches to guide the assessment of unintended compositional changes that could result from genetically modified foods and research avenues to fill the knowledge gaps.
