Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: “The Prophetic Matrix (in Christ)” is intended to be a practical teaching book using the Scriptures, what I have learned in 27+ years of ministry in churches throughout the nations, my experience as a mentor and discipler, my experience as a founding director and team member of our ministry, and my ministry knowledge as a servant apostle who teaches and preaches the word of God … and occasionally … has dreams, operates in discernment, and prophesies. I will be sharing teaching from Scripture, ministry experience, and testimonies, and along the way we will examine in much more detail the gift of prophecy, the matrix of prophecy within the New Testament, the role of New Testament prophecy and prophets, and how prophets can work together with apostles and other fivefold ministry gifts. Most importantly we will comprehend the importance of revelation, which Apostle Paul defines separately from prophecy (see 1 Corinthians 14:6). Through this process we will lay a foundation of Scriptural truth and Christological application that will help to bring the church into alignment with God’s heart concerning the gift of prophecy. It’s supernatural! The five offices (or ascension gifts) that Apostle Paul speaks of in Ephesians Chapter 4, verse 11, are given for the work of the ministry and to mature the church; our greatest ministry here on earth is to know Christ, and to make Christ known. On this positive and thought-provoking foundation, let’s take a deep dive in the Word together to re-examine old truths, and establish new truth in Christ about the New Testament gift of prophecy and other gifts given by the Holy Spirit. We will consider them in individual and corporate application; as well as in the church and in the marketplace.

Book excerpt: Ever wish someone could give you a big handle on the entire Bible without years of study? Well, this book not only promises to give you that big handle—it will deliver on the promise. You should be asking, how is this possible? The Bible is one story told over and over again, with many variations on the same theme. This structure is the Bible’s DNA. This basic seven-point pattern is the heartbeat of the Creation. It is the cycle of a human day and a human life. It is the pattern of the Tabernacle. It is the process of agriculture. It undergirds the speeches and Laws of God. It orders the rise and fall of nations and empires. It is also the structure of our worship. It is the rhythm of Christ, and it will open the Bible for you like never before.

Download or read book Escaping the Matrix written by Gregory A. Boyd and published by Baker Books. This book was released on 2005-04-01 with total page 224 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: In some way or another most of us are "stuck"-in a secret sin we can't control or maybe by an inability to stand up for ourselves. In Escaping the Matrix, authors Gregory A. Boyd and Al Larson use the vehicle of The Matrix film trilogy to argue that our struggles with habitual sin, thought patterns, damaged emotions, and phobias happen because we do not know how to take charge of the way we experience reality. The authors draw on biblical and psychological insights to provide practical resources for helping believers escape the matrix of the world system that ensnares them. While this book is aimed at the newest generation of Christian readers, all ages will be inspired by the book's innovative strategies for experiencing a deeper life in Christ.

Book Synopsis Preaching Like the Prophets by : Robert A. Carlson
Download or read book Preaching Like the Prophets written by Robert A. Carlson and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2017-02-08 with total page 179 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The Old Testament prophets are a neglected treasury of biblical examples for pastoral preaching. Too often the prophets are misunderstood as focusing on future or social justice issues. This book shows that the prophets are essentially preachers--very good ones--whom we must learn from. By comparing recent rhetorical analysis of the prophets to some of the best of current preaching literature, this book shows that the prophets preached the way that we ought to preach. It will help you to hear the prophets the same way that a pastor benefits from listening to a seasoned and exceptionally gifted preacher. We can benefit not only from what the prophets say but how they say it. By seeing how the prophets grab and keep their listeners, how they enhance clarity and relevancy, how they make truth come alive and how they persevere in their ministry, you too can learn to preach like the prophets.
Book Synopsis Of Heroes and Villains by : D. Keith Campbell
Download or read book Of Heroes and Villains written by D. Keith Campbell and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2013-08-05 with total page 213 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Gripping stories, whether modern or ancient, always include heroes and villains. The Synoptic Gospels, chock full of villains (religious leaders and others) in pursuit of an emerging hero (Jesus), are no different. Drawing first-century Jews into their familiar past and beckoning modern readers to join in its appreciation, these writers employ a literary tactic that intensifies this conflict; they depict these characters as Old Testament heroes and villains. To enter this fascinating, intertextual character portrayal, this book, in building on eighty years of lament studies, advances our understanding of the Synoptists's literary and rhetorical use of the Psalmic Lament in relation to other Old Testament motifs to characterize Jesus and his opponents. Other contributions made along the way, including insights into the Synoptists's literary appropriation of Isaiah's Servant, are all geared toward helping us better understand how Matthew, Mark, and Luke characterize their hero and villains.
Book Synopsis Prophetic Liturgy by : Tercio Junker
Download or read book Prophetic Liturgy written by Tercio Junker and published by Wipf and Stock Publishers. This book was released on 2014-02-07 with total page 185 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: The primary purpose of Prophetic Liturgy is to inquire into the prophetic dimension of the liturgy. Some questions addressed in the book are: How can a liturgy be prophetic? How can liturgy form and transform individuals and communities? In which sense does the liturgy facilitate a living participation in socio-political-economic life? How does the sacramental practice challenge the church to mediate God's gifts of grace, love, justice, and mercy to the world? Possible answers for these questions begin to emerge as we develop an understanding of religious praxis as an active and dynamic prophetic action, in which the community of faith claims its identity, promotes an engaged faithful Christian life, and affirms the sacramental life of the church as a source of formation and inspiration for prophetic praxis, mediating God's gift for the life of the world. There is risk in presenting an option for prophetic praxis, in that it may go beyond the comfort zone of a community and engender spiritual and political alienation. The most challenging ethical hope of this book is to provide the worshiping community with prophetic awareness of socio-economic injustice, while at the same time preserving the community's historical-cultural identity, its religious values, and its sacramental spirituality.

This Handbook includes a wide range of topics organized under several broad themes, including biblical characters (such as Adam, Eve, David and Jesus) and themes (like Creation, Hell, and Apocalyptic) in popular culture; the Bible in popular cultural genres (for example, film, comics, and Jazz); and "lived" examples (such as museums and theme parks). Book Synopsis Recovering Paul's Mother Tounge by : Susan G. Eastman
Download or read book Recovering Paul's Mother Tounge written by Susan G. Eastman and published by Wm. B. Eerdmans Publishing. This book was released on 2007-08-28 with total page 221 pages. Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Paul's letter to the Galatians begins with a proclamation of deliverance from the present evil age and comes to a climax with the ringing cry "new creation " The letter moves from the Galatian believers' new identity in Christ to the implications of that identity for their life together. Susan Eastman here argues that Galatians 4:12 5:1 plays a key role in this movement: it displays the power of God's act in Christ, apart from the law, not only to generate the Galatians' new life in Christ but also to perfect it. Paul communicates to his converts the motivation and power necessary to move them from their ambivalence about his gospel to a faith that "stands fast" in its allegiance to Christ alone. Eastman argues that the medium and the message are inseparable. Paul's discourse or "mother tongue" -- packed with maternal images, vulnerable yet authoritative, and marked by personal suffering -- demonstrates the content of the good news.
