In addition to this movement there is frequently, if not invariably, a Simultaneous contraction Of the triceps muscle, limited to a few of its middle fibers as a rule, but in some cases amounting to a decided bulging of the whole muscle. Dupre also attacked Dejerine's view, affirming that there were many hypochondriacs, many possessed with obsessions, many nosophobiacs, who were not and could not be helped by any amount of suggestion. Brissaud, Ballet, Souques, and Meige also assailed Dejerine's statement. In the dis cussion the weight of opinion favored the conclusion that, outside of hysteria, there are no morbid states at present well defined, in which one may meet disturbances present ing exactly the same characters as hysteria itself. Professor of Laryngology and Rhinology, Chicago Post-Graduate Medical School, Nervous and Mental Diseases This second case of Gordon's was that of a young man of 23 years of age, with a cicatrix on the right parietal region, showing pronounced mental hebetude and somno lence. The left knee-jerk was exaggerated, and the para doxie reflex was obtained with the greatest facility. Ba binski's toe-sign, Oppenheim's reflex, and ankle-clonus were all absent. An operation by Da Costa restored the patient to health, and in six weeks the paradoxic reflex, looked for by Gordon, was found wanting, as was also the increased knee-jerk. Gordon believes that his early con elusion is warranted, and it is here repeated: The para doxie reflex is a sign of value in -the beginning of an organic affection of the motor system or in cases of irrita tion. While the Babinski sign is of inestimable value in cases with a definitely established lesion of the motor sys tem, the paradoxic reflex, to say the least, is a Sign of transient irritation or of a sligh't lesion of the same motor pathway. J. M. Miller' in a ten-year-old girl who had had measles, varicella, pertussis and tonsillitis. With the pertussis, buccal, nasal and aural hemorrhage occurred. The tonsillitis was followed by pain in the hands and feet. The present attack made its onset with chill, headache, and sore throat, followed by nausea and vomiting. Swelling and redness of the wrists, hands and ankles, then appeared followed by the state before mentioned. Erythema occurred after 61 tonsillotomies and adenoid removals by Wingrave.' The septic element could be ex cluded. The temperature never rose above The age limit was 14 months to 23 years. There were forty-five females and sixteen males. The eruption, which was poly morphous in type, did not desquamate and was chiefly on the head and back. It appeared on the second or third day after the operation and lasted from two to four days. The procedure consists in scarifying as for vaccination. This scarified area is treated by Pirquet with a 4 per cent. Solution Of Old tuberculin. Others use from 1 to 4 per cent. Solutions. If the patient be tuber culous, then according to Pirquet, there appears within 48 hours a papule surrounded by a hyperemic zone 1 inch to 11} inches in diameter. The disappearance of this pap ule is Often followed by a brownish pigmentation of the skin which may persist for some time. The reaction has various degrees Of severity, from a very small papule to a large and intensely inflamed area. However, the se verity Of the reaction is not a measure Of the extent of the tuberculous process. The reaction is not attended by gen eral symptoms such as fever and malaise. To have success be strict in carrying out the details, viz: First Remove integument close to base of cilia. Second Insert the suture in front of cilia near lower edge of tarsal, that in tying it will be transfixed upward and outward. Third Leave sutures three inches long; draw them tightly up over eyebrow and fix with collodion or adhesive strips against forehead until tarsal edge of eyelid is retained in this restored or transfixed position by the new adhesion, which is most always by first intention. Opacity of cornea is oftimes a consequence of trachoma. The well-established rule that where the opacity has permeating is red corpuscle-carrying-vessels, we are safe in a favorable prognosis, for this vascularity will prove the avenues through which resorption is possible - i.e., in insterstitial opacity, and the same will apply as to a partial clearing away the opaque substance in cicritial opacity, resulting from structural loss or change. Much time is mostly necessary to accomplish the greatest good. When an opacity is white, bluish, glossy, even in color, and the object glass reveals no vessels either reach out through the surrounding transparent corneal tissue or passing over or through the opacity. It is very doubtful if we can re-establish sufficient circulation to absorb it. Atropia, eserine, dubosia influence the circulation. Vaseline and hydrg. ungt., and pulv. alba. Acts as absorbents and alternated as indications may require, will clear away many old inveterate corneal opacities. Errata. - In communication No.3, page 656, eighth line "blephante" should read "blepharitis." Page 637 "cadnu sulph." should read "cadmii. sulph." Editor Medical Brief: - I would like to ask through the Brief if there is any medicine that will stop the escape of semen with the urine. If so, what is it?
