Available in PDF, EPUB and Kindle. Book excerpt: Over 3 million copies sold! Essential reading for Catholics of all walks of life. Here it is - the first new Catechism of the Catholic Church in more than 400 years, a complete summary of what Catholics around the world commonly believe. The Catechism draws on the Bible, the Mass, the Sacraments, Church tradition and teaching, and the lives of saints. It comes with a complete index, footnotes and cross-references for a fuller understanding of every subject. The word catechism means "instruction" - this book will serve as the standard for all future catechisms. Using the tradition of explaining what the Church believes (the Creed), what she celebrates (the Sacraments), what she lives (the Commandments), and what she prays (the Lord's Prayer), the Catechism of the Catholic Church offers challenges for believers and answers for all those interested in learning about the mystery of the Catholic faith. The Catechism of the Catholic Church is a positive, coherent and contemporary map for our spiritual journey toward transformation.

Book excerpt: Excerpt from The Practical Catechist The Germans during the last two centuries turned their attention in a special manner to the vast field of instruction and education; but in no branch was there more earnest work done than in Catechetics. In numerous cathechetical periodicals and associations, and in a series of catechetical courses men of the greatest talent have devoted all their learning and ability to discuss and test the various methods, and to establish the most fruitful process of teaching Catechism. The movement has not yet met with perfect success; although the views of the weightiest authors now approach unanimity and a number of principles have been adopted as practically reliable, nevertheless it is not an easy matter to reduce them to practice. Of the many who have attempted to do so, only a few have met with satisfactory results. Lacking a thorough understanding of said principles, nearly all have applied them without sufficient care; among these are some who have the reputation of being masters in Catechetics. The Rev. James Nist, parish priest of Birkenh rdt (Palatinate), easily surpasses all his predecessors, and may be considered by far the best in Catechetics, for he has satisfactorily fulfilled his task. He has, indeed, mastered the true catechetical Method, without allowing it to master him. His catechetical works, therefore, deserve to be recommended as models. Even the older and more experienced Catechists can find much to learn therein, and especially the rare art of becoming little with the little, of accommodating oneself to their mind, heart and will. Book excerpt: Written specifically for any catechist who is new to the job or has never had any formal training, The Catechist's Toolbox features an invaluable collection of catechetical tips, techniques, methodologies, and advice. Throughout the book, master teacher Joe Paprocki shares the wisdom he has gleaned in two decades as a catechist, high school teacher, and religious educator. Employing the metaphor of a homeowner's toolbox, Paprocki explains how a new catechist is like a do-it-yourself builder who needs the right collection of tools to do the job; he then explains what the tools are, what they can do, and how to use them skillfully and effectively. Book excerpt: Catechists spend their time guiding children and adults in deepening thei Catholic faith. But who's guiding the catechists on their spiritual journey? While there are many books about what catechists should know and what they should do, there is very little on the spirituality of being a catechist. This book gives catechists the resources that speak to the spiritual dimensions of their call to share the Catholic faith. --Book cover.

Book excerpt: Catechesis is an ancient practice of Christian disciple making that uses a simple question-and-answer format to instruct new believers and church members in the core beliefs of Christianity. To Be a Christian, by J. I. Packer and a team of other Anglican leaders, was written to renew this oft-forgotten tradition for today’s Christians. With over 360 questions and answers, plus Scripture references to support each teaching, this catechism covers the full range of Christian doctrine and life, drawing from the Apostles’ Creed, the Lord’s Prayer, the Ten Commandments, and other important doctrinal summaries. Clear, concise, and conversational, this resource was written for all believers who seek to be grounded more deeply in the truth of God’s Word.

Book excerpt: Teachers of religious education and would-be catechists will find valuable practical and spiritual aid in this book. The view of the author is that catechesis is a matter of heart as well as head--formational as well as intructional. Drawing on the "General directory of catechesis", she offers practical ways of making that kind of catechesis happen and help with widely ranging challenges to religious educators, from setting up a parish video library to facilitating adult catechesis, from evangelizing and catechizing our children, to catechesis for the developmentally or physically challenged

The questions and answers of this book are gleaned from the myriad copyright questions submitted to her by actual educators in the field, addressing the unique copyright issues in schools. The information in Copyright Catechism II: Practical Answers to Everyday School Dilemmas will be invaluable to K–12 educators of all types, but especially librarians, technology specialists, and school administrators without time to study copyright law in-depth. The topics covered represent the complex and potentially confusing issues that active K–12 educators encounter in their daily work.
